I went digging last night in the NWS Tornado Database. Found out that Sumner Co has had 66 tornadoes since 1835. (Below is the map of the tracks.)

Someone asked me if there was a map for the 2006 tornado vs the 2023 tornado. (That's below as well) The Green is the 2023 tornado as it was a EF2, and the 1st Orange is the 2006 tornado (EF3)... The 2nd orange is an EF3 tornado that happened in 08'.

I broke down the ratings for you guys: (Maps below show those tracks as well.)

April 7, 2006 — 20 Years Ago Today

Today marks 20 years since a devastating tornado tore through Goodlettsville, Hendersonville, and Gallatin, a day many in our community will never forget.

That storm traveled 23.75 miles, leaving behind a path of destruction, heartbreak, and lives forever changed.
7 people lost their lives. 128 were injured.

Homes were leveled. Families were shaken. And for many, that night is still as vivid as if it happened yesterday.

What stands out just as much as the damage… is the strength that followed.

Neighbors helping neighbors. First responders running toward danger. A community that refused to stay down.

And in a chilling reminder— the December 2023 tornado tracked eerily close to the path of this tornado, proving once again that Middle Tennessee is no stranger to severe weather.

Days like today aren’t just about remembering what happened…
They’re about honoring those we lost, supporting those who still carry the scars, and staying prepared for what may come.

Weather isn’t just data. It’s people. It’s lives.

We remember. We stay ready. We take it seriously.

Hey SumnerSevereWx Fam! I wanted to share with yall what the Climate Prediction Center (CPC) shows for our area for the next 2 weeks.

First set of photos is the 6–10 Day Outlook (April 13–17)

🌡️ Temperatures:
Most of the country—including us—is leaning ABOVE normal.
That means… yeah, we’re running warmer than what mid-April typically brings. Not extreme heat, but definitely on the toasty side.

🌧️ Rain Chances:
We’re also looking at above normal precipitation.
Translation: more chances for rain and storms than usual. Not constant rain, but an active pattern. Which means enjoy the next 4/5 days of no rain. Though I think we will be begging for rain come this weekend. Weather Guidance show rain not coming until Next Tuesday at the earliest.

🗓️ 8–14 Day Outlook (April 15–21)

🌡️ Temperatures:
Still holding onto that above normal warmth across much of the U.S., especially the South and East.
Spring is flexing a little early here.

🌧️ Rain Chances:
This is where things shift a bit—
The Tennessee Valley (that’s us) trends closer to near normal precipitation, meaning:
- Not overly wet
- Not overly dry
- Just your typical spring back-and-forth

What does this mean for us?

Warmer than normal temps sticking around
A few rounds of rain/storms early in the period
Then things balance out to more “typical spring”
No strong signal for prolonged severe weather right now—but it’s still that time of year, so stay weather aware

Spring is doing exactly what spring does—warm, a little chaotic, and keeping us on our toes. Stay sharp, stay ready.

Happy Easter SumnerSevereWx Fam!

The cold front has officially pushed through this morning, and just like that… the heavier rain is gone. Behind it, we’ve got cooler air settling in with some leftover clouds mainly east of us.

Through the afternoon, expect a breezy northwest wind—nothing crazy, but you’ll feel it. As we head into tonight, winds relax, skies clear out, and temperatures drop into the mid 30s to low 40s.

Highs warming nicely into the low 60s

Perfect weather to get outside, spend time with family, find some easter eggs! Eat chocolate or Peeps!

(Weekly Forecast coming later tonight!)

Happy Easter from me to you and your family! He is Risen!

04/04/2026

The heaviest of the rain is behind us! We’ll keep a few on-and-off showers around for the next several hours, but nothing major.

And good news, Easter is shaping up to be a BEAUTIFUL day! 🌤️
