OPINION: Clearly, President Trump could use a visit from a few ghosts to help teach him empathy and compassion. Unwilling to showcase any grace, he chooses personal greed and reveling in the death of another instead of behavior fitting of our leader.

Although Middle Tennessee has yet to have a picturesque winter wonderland descend upon us, we are well on our way to Christmas and all the joys the season brings. The stores are bustling, people are decorating and nearly everyone should find happiness and hope this time of the year. Of course, as wi...

You can tell Christmas is near: crime scenes Chicago to New York are now roped off with festive green and red tape. Here is my annual, hopeful look back. 1. That everyone stays safe this Christmas, both from crime and from dinner table conversations with family. My Druncle Mac used to drink stuff th...

I saw a guy wearing a shirt that had a semicolon on the front. I walked over to tell him that it was a cool shirt and there had to be a meaning behind it. He thanked me for asking and said it was a su***de prevention shirt.

Sem-i-co-lon: A punctuation mark (;) indicating a pause, typically between two main clauses, that is more pronounced than that indicated by a comma. We all know what a semicolon is. It is pretty underrated when it comes to writing, and that is okay. As an English teacher told me when I was actually....

Ms. Cheap provides her money-saving New Year's Resolutions.

With the new year comes a clean slate and a gnawing push to take on some worthy resolutions for making the most of our money - and our time - in the year ahead. Sending Christmas cards is getting to be so 20th century. The tradition seems destined for the holiday scrap heap with tinsel trees and popcorn garland.

Sending Christmas cards is getting to be so 20th century. The tradition seems destined for the holiday scrap heap with tinsel trees and popcorn garland. My wife and I mail fewer every year. I think we’re down to a handful of elderly aunts and uncles who cling to the ghost of Christmas Past. It’s...

Words still matter. I’ve said that before. It continues to be true. I say this because our president is teaching our children how to behave like disrespectful, childish, boorish, whiny, unwelcome humans who would never be allowed to visit my home.

Dear Editor, Words still matter. I’ve said that before. It continues to be true. I say this because our president is teaching our children how to behave and speak like disrespectful, childish, boorish, whiny, unwelcome humans who would never be allowed to visit my home. Our president has started t...

A Lebanon Bible study group continued its Christmas tradition on Dec. 20 by giving a significant amount of money as a Christmas offering to a waitress in Portland.

The Christmas tradition of a Lebanon nondenominational Bible class blessing a waitress with a hefty cash gift notched its 10th anniversary on Dec. 20 at the Top of the Ridge restaurant in Portland. Their random recipient was 27-year-old Kaylee Brooks whose reaction to the $6,000 handed to her in a s...
