Happy October! October is a big month for us at Waves Magazine because we’re celebrating nine years of publishing!

What a ride it’s been since our first issue hit the streets in October 2017. A huge thank you to our readers and loyal advertisers, many of whom have been with us since day one. We truly appreciate your support.

You don’t make it nine years without an incredible team. Our writers and contributors help bring every issue to life, and we’re grateful for their talent and dedication.

A special thank you to my great friend and the backbone of Waves Magazine, Christopher Bergeron. His creativity and contributions have shaped every issue since the beginning. Thanks also to our wives, Tiffany Bergeron and Lynda Burke, whose support plays an important role in everything we do.

October in Galveston is always packed with fun. From Oktoberfest and the Greek Festival to Halloween celebrations and the Lone Star Rally just around the corner, there’s plenty to enjoy.

And as always, please remember to shop local, eat local, and support local. Our small businesses are the heartbeat of Galveston, and they need our support.

October marks the ninth anniversary of Waves Magazine. What a fantastic journey it has been, and we will continue striving to keep you informed and entertained with all things Galveston.

Keep your eyes open for our Waves Magazine ninth anniversary party. These parties are always epic, and this one promises to be no different. Details on date, time, and location will be announced soon. I can hear the super talented band Stranded warming up already. Stay posted.

Happy September, Wavers.

One of the great joys of publishing Waves Magazine for almost nine years now is the people you meet and the friends you make along the way.

Our Waves family and I recently lost a very good friend with the passing of Charlie Bresenhan. I was fortunate to meet Charlie and Tom Valliere in the early beginnings of Waves, when we first discussed adding a Restaurant Section and a review column to each issue. It became a terrific success, and I could not have done it without Charlie and Tom.

Charlie was a wonderful person. He was smart, witty, funny, and kind. The type of person I was proud to call a friend.

We will all miss you, Charlie. Rest well, my friend.

There is a fire somewhere else in the area, which may be causing some confusion. We sincerely hope everyone involved is okay and that no one has been hurt.

Happy August, Wavers.

Summer is in full swing. With it comes one of the busiest seasons for Galveston. Every sandcastle, every stroll down The Strand, every cruise passenger, and every seafood lover helps keep our island thriving. It is no secret that tourism affects livelihoods.

Galveston welcomes more than seven million visitors each year, supporting thousands of local jobs and generating millions in economic activity. As residents, we help shape every visitor’s experience. A smile, a friendly greeting, or a little patience in summer traffic can make all the difference.

Crowds and tight parking can test us, but they’re also signs of a strong season for our businesses and workers. Galveston’s reputation for hospitality was built by generations who understood that treating guests well benefits the entire community.

As this summer unfolds, let’s give every visitor a warm welcome and make sure they leave with great memories and every reason to return. Remember to take time to enjoy home as well.

Also remember to visit our award‑winning Restaurant and Food Section for some of Galveston’s best dining spots. As always, we encourage you to shop locally. Supporting our neighbors keeps the island strong.
