9-year-old Carter Santelmo was recently awarded the New York State Liberty Medal by NY State Senator Steve Rhoads for his actions as a 7-year-old in April 2023, when, during a vacation to Florida, Carter spotted his then 4-year-old brother floating unconscious in a pool and pulled him to safety, allowing for his life to be saved.
