One of Nassau County’s most ambitious infrastructure projects is poised to reshape Shore Road and Prospect Avenue into a safer, greener, and more accessible waterfront corridor connecting Glen Cove, Sea Cliff, and Glenwood Landing.

Stretching nearly four miles and with a projected cost of more than $14 million, the project includes redesigned intersections, designated bike lanes, new sidewalks and major stormwater upgrades that local leaders say will help the community thrive long into the future.

Nassau County homeowners are bracing for rising taxes and unexpected expenses that always seem to pile up. Luckily, they can authorize Maidenbaum to file their property tax grievance for the 2027/28 tax year.

Acting early makes all the difference, because waiting too long could mean missing opportunities, or worse, ending up with a company that doesn’t have the experience to represent you properly. Don’t let misleading promises impact your results – if something seems too good to be true, it usually is!

A tense Glen Cove City Council meeting erupted into raised voices on Sept. 24 as a late addition to the agenda, involving salary increases for city employees, sparked a heated debate over transparency, process and respect for religious observance.

The council had been asked to vote on salary hikes for three Department of Public Works employees and one worker at the Glen Cove Senior Center. The raises had been added to the agenda the previous Friday, prompting several council members to express concern that they had not been given adequate time or documentation to evaluate the proposal.

A proposal to install an AT&T antenna on the roof of the Glen Cove Shopping Center, on Forest Avenue, has ignited a fierce debate, with a dozen residents voicing their opposition at a Sept. 16 Planning Board meeting.

Neighbors said the installation would lower property values, raise health concerns and permanently change the character of their community, while attorneys for the wireless carrier argued that the project is critical to remedy a significant gap in coverage.

While leafing through World War I clippings in the Glen Cove Public Library seven years ago, Dr. Richard Harris noticed something that stopped him cold: Nearly 40 men from Glen Cove and the surrounding area had served in the Harlem Hellfighters, the famed 369th Infantry Regiment. Among them were six brothers from the Fowler family, most of whom fought side by side in France.

That moment of discovery set Harris, an assistant dean at Webb Institute, in Glen Cove, and a longtime student of military history, on a path that eventually led to the belated presentation of one of the nation’s highest honors.

On Sept. 3, at Emancipation Hall in the U.S. Capitol, the Harlem Hellfighters were collectively awarded the Congressional Gold Medal. The ceremony marked the culmination of years of local research, grassroots organizing and political persistence that began in part with Harris’s determination to ensure that Glen Cove’s soldiers were not forgotten.
