Silence isn't always empty; sometimes, it’s where the hardest work happens.
For those who have noticed my absence over the last year, I wanted to share a bit of why I stepped away. After my deployment to Western North Carolina following Hurricane Helene, I found myself in a very dark place. While we were there to help, I returned home carrying the weight of what I saw and a heavy sense of survivor’s guilt that I wasn't prepared to handle.
I’ve spent the past year focusing on my mental health, working closely with a therapist who specializes in veteran and first responder trauma. It’s been a difficult road, but I’m learning how to process those experiences and find my footing again.
I am incredibly grateful for the patience and the quiet, steady support from this community. It means more than I can put into words.
Onward and upward.
