It’s that time again, time for the SGFF monthly meeting. Join us Tuesday, October 21st when our special guest will be Marcus Rodriquez

has been guiding the Texas Hill Country since 1998. He was co-owner of The Guides of Texas and specialized in canoe fly fishing trips on hundreds of miles of different Texas streams. Now Marcus is one of the guides at Living Waters Fly Fishing in Round Rock. A passionate fly fisher and a consummate gentleman, he loves meeting new folks and talking about fly fishing, canoes, and rivers.

Marcus will be speaking about his home water, the Beautiful San Marcos River. The San Marcos is a challenging hard flowing river and the discussion will cover the put ins and take outs, best floating and wading sections, as well as gear and guidance. It’s a great river for those seeking a challenge and adventure and, even better, it’s only an hour from Georgetown

As always, our meetings are free and open to the public.

We had a great casting clinic last night in Georgetown. Congratulations to and for passing their FFI Silver level and to for passing his Bronze level. Thanks to our instructors Clint Barton, Andy Payne, Ed Siska, and Doug Ragsdale for working with our club members. We even had a “walk on” from the pickle ball courts come and throw a pretty nice tight loop! No, I don’t know why Clint is pretending to be an airplane coming in for a landing in that one pic🤣.

Mother Nature put on quite a show with an amazing sunset!

Temps are finally dropping, the third Tuesday of the month is right around the corner, and that can only mean one thing!

Time for the SGFF monthly club meeting!!

Our guest speaker this month is Danny Scarborough!!

The Houston, TX native began fishing at just three years old. He made the transition to fly fishing around 2010 and never looked back. Within a few years Danny started running trips for white bass, quickly falling in love with the experience of putting clients on fish. Since then, he has become a full-time fly fishing guide in the north Texas (DFW) and Houston areas. He loves to target anything that swims on a fly rod, from spot tail shiners to striped marlin!

On his visit to the San Gabriel Fly Fishers, Danny will share with us all about two of his specialty species - Texas Gar (Short nose, Spotted, Longnose, and Alligator) and Bowfin! He’ll cover the set ups, fly choices, locations, and best time of year to target them all.

As always, our meetings are free and open to the public.

SGFF member with some solid creek bass over the Labor Day Weekend. Apparently her secret weapon was the Kreelex which she described as “hot”. We love a Kreelex, it is a must have fly for almost any situation or species.

A couple of club members escaped the August heat to head up to Colorado for some trout action! and .jamesreese spent about a week fishing all around Colorado (James looks mighty determined and very stylish in his shorts and black socks!). Ben Landrum decided his most recent trip to Colorado wasn’t enough and went back for some more fishing; this time, on the Arkansas River.
