For the rest of today, expect mostly sunny skies and comfortable conditions with highs in the low to mid 80s. Humidity remains relatively low with light winds, and no rain is expected.

Tonight stays dry with some increase in cloud cover. Light southerly winds will begin bringing slightly warmer and more humid air into the region, with lows generally in the upper 50s to mid 60s.

Wednesday will be a little warmer and more humid with highs around the mid 80s and dew points climbing into the low to mid 60s. Expect partly to mostly sunny skies with a developing southerly breeze. Delmarva should remain dry during the day, with showers and thunderstorms staying north and west of the region.

No significant weather hazards are expected through Wednesday. Our next chance for showers and thunderstorms arrives Thursday as a cold front crosses the region.

A cold front will move across the Mid-Atlantic on Thursday, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms to the region.

A few showers could develop as early as Wednesday night across northern portions of the area, but the better chance for rain and storms will come Thursday as the front pushes southeastward.

Atmospheric instability is expected to remain fairly limited, so strong or severe thunderstorms are not anticipated at this time. Most activity should consist of scattered showers and general thunderstorms, although a few storms could produce brief heavy rain and gusty winds.

Flooding concerns also appear limited since the front and associated rainfall should remain fairly progressive.

Behind the front, cooler and drier air is expected to settle into the region Friday.

The forecast becomes more uncertain heading into the weekend, as the front may stall south of the area and allow additional waves of low pressure to develop. That could bring another period of unsettled weather to parts of the region.

On February 2, 1928, a group of citizens gathered at C. H. Pearson's Store in Cheswold to organize what would become the Cheswold Volunteer Fire Company. William S. Scarborough was elected President, and Willard D. Boyce was chosen as the first Chief. Early fundraising relied on subscriptions, suppers, and carnivals, and the company's first truck was a used Ford Model T Chemical Wagon. Formally incorporated on August 17, 1931, the company grew steadily — eventually acquiring the former Cheswold Public School and converting it into a firehouse officially dedicated on April 26, 1953, by Delaware Governor and Cheswold native J. Caleb Boggs. A major addition was completed in January 1971. A historical marker commemorating this company stands today at 371 Main Street in Cheswold.

Current conditions across Delmarva and the Mid-Atlantic are looking great this morning.

High pressure remains in control, bringing plenty of sunshine, dry weather, and comfortable humidity levels. Temperatures across the region are generally running in the upper 60s to lower 70s as we approach 10 AM.

Satellite imagery shows very little cloud cover across Delmarva, with the thicker clouds remaining well offshore over the Atlantic. Expect temperatures to continue climbing through the late morning and afternoon with another pleasant early September day ahead.

Enjoy the sunshine and comfortable weather while it lasts.
