We here at Appalachian Mountain Wrestling would like to announce that on October 17th the NWA World’s Championship match between Champion Thomas Latimer and John Noble that occurred on 9/18 in Hyden, Ky at the Richard M. Nixon center is being recognized by the Mountain Sports Hall of Fame located in Wayland, KY
The Mountain Sports Hall of Fame’s mission is to preserve the history of Eastern, KY athletics, its players, coaches and teams. Along with its importance of their lineage across all levels of competition.
The NWA World’s title that has a history that goes back to 1904 and has been held by the likes of The Nature Boy Ric Flair, American Dream Dusty Rhodes, his son Cody Rhodes, Sting, Ricky The Dragon Steamboat, Jeff Jarrett, AJ Styles and so many more.
September 18th 2025 marked the first time in nearly 40 years that the NWA Worlds Title had been defended in the mountains of Eastern, KY. That date also marked the first time a wrestler from Eastern, KY challenged for the title inside the mountains of the state.
Challenger John Noble (from Barwick in Breathitt County) who is a staple of wrestling in Kentucky. Began wrestling in 1997. John has traveled all across the United States and Canada for almost 30 years wrestling matches and chasing his dream of a world championship. 2016 he was conducted into the Kentucky Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame.
John also has been a high school head basketball coach since 2001 at Buckhorn High School (Region title in 2016), Breathitt County High School & currently at Leslie County High School.
The Mountain Sports Hall of Fame committee feels that the significance of this match fits their mission statement.
AMW and the Mountain Sports Hall of Fame would invite everyone to come out on Friday October 17th at 11am as we proudly recognize the only Pro Wrestling match at the Hall of Fame.
On display will be several photos from the match and a signed replica NWA WORLDS CHAMPIONSHIP belt by both competitors.
