The Kindred of Kali finds Professor Harmonious Crackle and Miss Titania Bang, and their friend Sir Richard Blasphemy arriving on the doorstep of Sir Richard's Aunt and Uncle in Kanpur, India. They quickly discover that the house is involved in hosting a garden party for the daughter of the local maharaja and the cream of Kanpur society. What's more, Sir Richard's younger brother William is here, a freshly minted lieutenant in the British Imperial Army, serving at the local garrison.

Sir Richard forces his way in to find William, and no sooner are the brother's reunited, and Aunt Phyllis appeased at the interruption of her carefully orchestrated party, than the house is attacked by a group of veiled women wielding swords with six steam powered mechanical arms attached to their backs. The intruders call themselves the Kindred of Kali and demand for the British to leave India to her native sons and daughters, lest they be driven from the land. Professor Crackle calls for them to surrender, but he is attacked by one of the women, and a fight ensues. When the fight ends and the dust settles, the Kindred have retreated, but the maharani and Aunt Phyllis are missing.

This weekend, the fall convention season marches on. For me, that means that it is time for Capclave. I'll be there and I'll have books in tow. I'll have both copies of The Perils of Prague and The Shining Cog and Other Steampunk Tales for sale and available for signing.
