Whose Shutdown Is It Anyway?

College Democrats argue that the recent shutdown is "a dereliction of constitutional duty and an abuse of power by both an apathetic Congress and a president with hegemonic intentions."

The recently-ended government shutdown is an example of broken politics in Washington and how one party in particular uses broken politics to attempt to prove its central thesis about the inefficie…

Heritage Not Hate: South Africa Edition

Is eliminating "the language of Apartheid" from South African universities erasure of history, heritage, and culture? Or is it a long past due demonstration of respect and equality?

The University of Pretoria, an esteemed South African university, announced last week that it will begin to phase out the Afrikaans language as a language of instruction. While perhaps this policy …

War Imagery, Sympathy, and Repulsion: Gettysburg Professor Peter Carmichael Gives a Talk at the Gallery

Carolyn Hauk '21 from Art Alliance breaks down Schmucker Art Gallery's latest event:

"Last Thursday, the Schmucker Art Gallery welcomed Professor Peter Carmichael to give the final gallery talk on The Plains of Mars exhibition. As a Professor of the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College, Carmichael’s talk focused primarily on early war photography––particularly that of the Civil War. He recounts his first experience with Civil War visual culture at nine years of age and how childish fascinations with places such as Disneyland were suddenly replaced with an interest in the Civil War."

Our Story

Gettysburg News Network (GNN) strives to provide a breadth and depth of content to the campus community. Though Gettysburg-related pieces are encouraged, there are few limitations on what an author may pen and publish. That said, an overarching objective of GNN is to keep content short & accessible (no works longer than 1500 words).

Guided by Gettysburg students, correspondents, and creative minds, we provide content that will help the Gettysburg community become better informed through campus updates, news, unique opinion, faculty/alumni experiences, pictures, and videos.
