Our little publishing company crossed two important thresholds this week. A few days ago, we passed the threshold of 1500 total books sold. And an order this morning took the total for our best-seller, Stories the Monuments Tell, over 1000 copies sold.

I'm gratified that the bookstores continue to order the book and that sales remain brisk.

Our first spinoff article from the new "Combat Engineer With Patton's Army book," from the Battle of the Bulge association newsletter. The article is adapted from the book and describes the special task force that was sent to the relief of Bastogne and Frank Lembo's reactions during and after this mission.
Best place to order it is direct from the publisher, Savas Beatie. https://www.savasbeatie.com/a-combat-engineer-with-pattons-army-the-fight-across-europe-with-the-80th-blue-ridge-division-in-world-war-ii/

Announcing our soon-to-be fifth title and our first "for children of all ages" book, the story of Jennie Wade of Gettysburg, the only civilian to die during the battle. Finished a solid first draft and a first edit of the text, graphics are mainly done, book is formatted with a few holes to fill in.

Sold the last copies o the previous edition of this book, and the new 3rd edition will be available soon. This is almost a new book. New features include: 1) more than 100 new photos (primarily replacing existing photos with better photos, but some expansion), 2) a much more "catchy" cover, with a new photo of the 149 PA infantry, 3) a few new sections that shed new llight on the battle and its monuments, and 4) most importantly, a tour guide at the back of the book that will let the reader use the book to accompany a battlefield tour.

In the month since the announcement was made that Gettysburg would be starting to reopen, we sold 108 books. Not what I'd hope for in one of the big months of the year in a normal year, but for this year, I'm satisfied. Stories the Monuments Tell remains our best seller, with 51 orders in the past month (886 overall).

"Civil War Covers as Historical Documents"

Both Adam Shefts and I have had many appearances cancelled (well, let's hope postponed). Last night I had the chance to do an online "Stamp Chat" for the American Philatelic Society and did a presentation on how these covers are not just collectibles but also historic documents in their own right. I've been invited to do several more presentations, so this should go on for a while.

Sales are slow this year, but today we crossed the 1200 total sales threshold. Not doing any bookstore sales right now, so what little we’re doing is Amazon.

1198 was an Amazon sale of Adam Shefts’s book, Games that time forgot.

1199 was A soldier in the 55th Ohio: Morgan Snyder and the Civil War.

1200 was No Greater Calamity for the Country: North-South Conflict, Secession, and the Onset of Civil War.

No Greater Calamity for the Country: North-South Conflict, Secession, and the Onset of Civil War

Check out the review in Civil War News: A Long Road to Disunion. Using the photographs, letters, and patriotic covers from the scrapbook of ancestor Hiram Roosa, Corresponding Secretary of the New York Military Association, the author catalogues events leading to Civil War. ... He weaves their roles into a summary of the war's causes, early attempts at reconciliation, the journey to ultimate disunion, and the use of printed media to sway the weary public.

The book uses over 300 images of patriotic envelopes, the comic medium of the day, as a way to present the basics of the road to secession. Each patriotic envelope is placed in the context of its historical event and why it was chosen to influence public opinion. A great deal of emphasis is placed on Lincoln's call for 75,000 volunteers to suppress the rebellion and how this singular event galvanized Southern Unionists to support secession, the loss of four Border states, and the destruction of compromise. Likewise the attack on Fort Sumter caused Northern opinion to support the war effort to preserve the Union. While the nation had been drifting apart philosophically for decades, these two events crystallized public opinion and led to rejecting a peaceful resolution of their sectional differences.

The book is well written, readable, and provides a snippet of information on all major aspects of the war the the road to disunion. Including the patriotic covers is a welcome addition that any historian ought to consider for how public opinion was molded. Wayne L. Wolf, Civil War News.

The year-long crisis that started with the first summer months of the 1860 presidential campaign and ended in the first major combat at Manassas is one of the most consequential 12 months in American history. Over that eventful year, one of the two major political parties shattered (and lost the ...

Biggest day for our little company since the publication of our first book. I'm pleased to announce that we signed a new author, Adam Shefts, "The Victorian Historian." One of the really talented historical interpreters in Gettysburg, he presents a unique take on the Victorian era.

We'll be publishing his book, Games That Time Forgot, and we hope many, many others. We'll also be working closely with Adam to promote his presentations. I think he's a great fit and I'm really excited about this.
