Earlier today, Gillette Police Department (GPD) officers were dispatched to a report of a small boy outside near an apartment complex. Officers found a 3-year-old boy curled up on the floor just inside the door of the apartment building. Because he was underdressed for the extreme cold conditions, the child was transported to Campbell County Health, where he was checked out and released with no injuries. The child’s family had just moved into the building; he had left their apartment without being noticed and had gotten lost.

The Gillette Police Department would like to recognize Campbell County High School student, Ashlynn Wallett, for her actions in helping the young boy. While she was getting on the school bus, Ashlynn noticed the boy wandering around alone inside the foyer of the apartment building and immediately notified her bus driver, who then contacted GPD.

Ashlynn was recognized today by Corporal Trevor Johnson, who presented her with a GPD challenge coin for her leadership. The incident demonstrates the importance of the principle of “If you see something, say something”.

Congratulations to Campbell County High School teacher Tim Bessette. One student wrote: "Mr. Bessette is a kind and caring teacher. He has helped more students than anyone can count. He is an amazing theater director and just an overall amazing person. He views all of his students as his children basically and many of his students view him as a father figure." Thank you Mr. Bessette for being such a caring role model for our students.

Congratulations to Carlee Howe, a Junior at Thunder Basin High School for being selected as the January Student of the Month! Just a few things that were said about Carlee! Carlee is student council president at Thunder Basin an active member in the student advisory group that is a state wide sportsmanship group. Carlee volunteers her time taking pictures of all sports. She is an active member of FBLA and DECA, she has experimented with lots of sports including diving. She thrives on being involved and supporting her school and Gillette. She is also doing dual enrollment and hopes to graduate with her associates the same time as graduating high school. Carlee is a great role model! All while working a part time job. Huge shout out to Thunder Basin High School FFA Advisor Alta Jordan for being selected as the December Teacher of the Month from Basin Radio Network! Alta wins a $50 gift card courtesy of Hillcrest Auto Body. We thank her for all she does for her students.
