Traffic Stop Leads to Major Drug Bust, Three Arrested

GILLETTE, WY--Three 22-year-old men are facing multiple felony charges following a traffic stop in Campbell County that led to a significant drug seizure.

During the stop on Hidden Valley Road, a deputy reported the smell of raw ma*****na coming from the vehicle. A K-9 unit was called in to conduct a free air sniff. K-9 Wick alerted to the presence of drugs.

BREAKING: Sheriff Scott Matheny Announces Retirement.

In a letter provided to the media Sheriff Matheny relayed his plans to retire from the Campbell County Sheriff's Office at the end of his term.

"After more than 40 years of service with the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, including three terms as Sheriff, I have decided I will not be seeking re-election.

It’s hard to fully put into words what this journey has meant to me. When I first pinned on the badge, I was a young man with a lot to learn and a deep respect for the responsibility that came with the job.

Over the years, this role has shaped my life, my values, and my understanding of what it truly means to serve a community.

I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some of the finest deputies, detention officers, dispatchers, and staff anyone could ask for. The strength of this office has never been about one person—it’s always been about the team. Through long nights, difficult calls, and challenging moments, I’ve seen professionalism, courage, and heart every single day. I am incredibly proud of everyone who has worn the badge in service to Campbell County.

To the people of Campbell County—thank you for your trust. Serving as your Sheriff has been one of the greatest honors of my life. This job is about more than enforcing the law—it’s about relationships, respect, and being there when people need you most. I’ve seen this community come together in both hardship and joy, and that’s something I will always carry with me.

I also want to thank my family. They’ve stood by me through the late nights, missed holidays, and the weight this job can bring home. Their support has meant everything. Especially my wife, Lori—she has been with me through it all. She is my rock and my backbone, and I would not be the man I am today without her.

As I step away, I do so with confidence in the future of this office. The next generation is ready—capable, committed, and prepared to carry this responsibility forward with integrity.

While I may be retiring from the badge, I will always remain an active part of this community. I believe in Campbell County—it’s a great place to raise a family.

Thank you for allowing me to serve.

Stay safe, take care of one another, and may God bless Campbell County."

Local Law Enforcement Warns of Phone Scam Using Deputy Names

GILLETTE, WY--Gillette Police and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office are warning residents about a phone scam making the rounds using the names of local law enforcement.

According to Police Captain Eric Vos, a 44-year-old man reported receiving a call from someone claiming to be Lieutenant Dan Maul. The caller told the man he had a warrant for missing jury duty and needed to pay $1,000 to avoid arrest.

The victim sent the money through PayPal but later became suspicious after receiving a second call asking for more personal information. He then contacted the Gillette Police Department.

Authorities say the victim was unable to recover the money.

Law enforcement is reminding the public that neither the Gillette Police Department nor the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office will ever call and demand payment over the phone.

If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately and contact local law enforcement.

The case remains under investigation.

School District Employee Arrested After Alleged Incident at Sage Valley Junior High

GILLETTE, WY --A Campbell County School District employee has been arrested and charged with felony child abuse following an incident at Sage Valley Junior High.

According to Gillette Police, school staff contacted officers at around 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, after a 13-year-old student reported being physically assaulted by a 32-year-old non-teaching staff member.

Investigators say the incident began as a disagreement over a computer use policy. The employee told police the student was being disrespectful, but the situation escalated when the man allegedly grabbed the student by the back of the neck and pushed him into a locker.

Police reports indicate the employee also used profanity toward the student during the incident.

The student suffered scratches and redness to his neck, along with a bump on his head. He was evaluated by the school nurse and later released to his parents.

The employee was taken into custody and is facing one count of felony child abuse.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Gun Drawn in Gillette Apartment Fight, Two Taken Into Custody

GILLETTE, WY--Two men were arrested Thursday morning following a violent altercation outside a Gillette apartment.

According to Gillette Police Captain Kelly Alger, officers were called around 4:00 a.m. to a residence on Boxelder Road after a 22-year-old woman reported an assault.

The woman told police she was at her apartment with two 29-year-old men when her ex-boyfriend, also 22, arrived with his 21-year-old friend, Collin Worley. She said the two became angry upon finding the men inside, leading to a confrontation.

One of the 29-year-old men stepped outside and prevented the pair from entering, and a fight broke out between the three men. During the altercation, the second 29-year-old came outside to intervene but was tackled by the ex-boyfriend and continued to be assaulted on the ground.

Alger said Worley then pulled a handgun from his waistband and struck one of the men on the side of the head, causing a severe laceration to his ear and knocking him to the ground. After the fight stopped, Worley briefly pointed the gun at the two men before lowering it.

The woman came outside during the incident, activating a taser and yelling for the men to stop and that she had called the police. The two suspects then fled the scene.

One of the victims was treated at the emergency room for the injury to his ear.

Police located both men a few hours later at a residence and they initially refused to exit. Both were taken into custody. Worley was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault and interference with a police officer. The 22-year-old ex-boyfriend was arrested for interference, with additional charges pending.

From Wyoming to the Moon! Congratulations to L&H Industrial on their amazing work to ensure the Artemis II launch was successful!

Tonight, humans go back to the Moon. 🌙🚀

NASA's Artemis II launches TODAY from Kennedy Space Center — the first crewed mission beyond low Earth orbit since Apollo 17 in 1972. Four astronauts will make a 10-day journey around the Moon and back, making history every mile of the way.

We're incredibly proud to share that L&H Industrial has played a direct role in making this mission possible.

Our team — right here in Gillette, Wyoming — was trusted by NASA for two critical projects at Kennedy Space Center:

**1. Upgrading the Crawler-Transporter 2**
This is the massive machine that carries the rocket from the assembly building to the launch pad. L&H manufactured over 1,300 precision components and rebuilt all 16 gearboxes to increase its payload by 6 million pounds. Those parts are underneath tonight's rocket right now.

**2. Manufacturing the Flame Deflector Cladding Plates for Pad 39B**
When Artemis I's launch damaged the flame deflector system, NASA called on L&H to manufacture stronger, more durable cladding plates to protect the pad at liftoff. Tonight, that structure takes on nearly 9 million pounds of thrust.

From a machine shop in Wyoming to a launch pad in Florida — we are proud that the quality and character of our people helped pave the way for one of the greatest moments in space exploration history.

**Tune in tonight and watch history happen.**

🚧 Highway 59 Construction Causing Delays in Gillette

Gillette, WY-Drivers in Gillette are being urged to plan ahead as construction continues along one of the city’s busiest roads.

According to the Wyoming Department of Transportation District 4 office, work is ongoing on Highway 59, also known as South Douglas Highway, through the city.
A stretch of southbound Highway 59 is reduced to a single lane between Camel Drive and Boxelder Road, leading to noticeable slowdowns—especially during peak daytime traffic hours.

WYDOT says the lane restriction is part of an ongoing improvement project in northeast Wyoming, aimed at maintaining and upgrading roadway conditions. While specific timelines for completion have not been announced, drivers should expect intermittent delays as crews continue work in the area.

Motorists are advised to:
• Slow down and watch for changing traffic patterns
• Allow extra travel time during busy hours
• Don't block intersections with traffic signals

The construction zone runs through a heavily traveled commercial area, meaning congestion can build quickly during morning and afternoon commutes.

WYDOT officials say updates will be provided as the project progresses, and drivers are encouraged to check road condition reports before heading out.
