Gasoline-powered vehicles generate more than half of the South Valley's local air pollution emissions. To counter this, Silicon Valley Clean Energy and Breathe California are launching Gilroy’s first EV Ride and Drive event, shifting the focus from high-pressure showroom sales pitches to direct consumer education. The initiative allows residents to test-drive various electric vehicles, consult local owners, and access hands-on assistance navigating available clean travel tech rebates and financial incentives.

More than 325 seniors graduated from Gilroy High School's Class of 2026 at Centennial Circle. The ceremony featured student addresses by Maleah Lopez, Emiliano Garcia, Brooklyn Epps, Anna Nguyen and Kamryn Krejdovsky. Epps praised the school's faculty and support staff for building a strong community, while Krejdovsky celebrated her peers' diverse paths and sent them off into their future careers.

Several hundred protesters marched 1.5 miles in Gilroy to oppose a federal plan to build a $26.5 million immigration detention facility on Holsclaw Road. Organizers and residents warned the proposed ICE facility would target workers across Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties.
