Gilroy Foundation has partnered with the Santa Clara County Library District and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library to offer free monthly books to children ages 0–5 in Gilroy. The initiative is funded by the new Susie Seledon Literacy Fund. The foundation also opened its 2026 competitive grant cycle, offering awards ranging from $500 to $5,000 for community projects.

Gilroy police have arrested 39-year-old Adrian Lopez on suspicion of starting multiple vegetation fires near Travel Park Circle on September 6. Officers say Lopez was found wearing shoes matching prints seen at fire scenes and made statements implicating himself. He was booked on drug charges and additionally accused of arson.
