Oops! It was brought to my attention that I made a mistake in the Mayor's race election article that is in today's edition. I had a duplicate answer on one of James Scholes' answers. I apologize for this error. Here is the question and Scholes' actual answer:
Question from Hometown Girard: Girard has faced ongoing infrastructure challenges, from streets and sidewalks to water, sewer, and electric systems. What should be the city’s
top infrastructure priorities over the next four years?
James Scholes: I would like to see Girard get more involved in fixing our sidewalks. I know that there were sidewalks fixed on St. John St. and by R.V.H., but there are sidewalks throughout the entire town that require maintenance. The city currently has the funding and a contractor in place to fix some of the water issues we are facing. The roads in the city definitely need fixed, but I don’t believe that we should spend any unnecessary money until we have a plan in place for our sewer issues. It’s counterproductive to asphalt the roads when we’d just have to cut into them in order to work on the sewers. We would need to check all of the sewers to see what problems are on the city and what is on the homeowner, and come up with a plan and cost summary of what it would take to come up with the appropriate solution. Once that has been done, we can look at the budget and available grants, and begin sending out requests for bids.
