🚨🚨This might surprise some people. 🚨🚨

Many people assume when they pay for a cleaning service they’re paying for the time spent cleaning their home.

But for legitimate service businesses, that’s only one part of the cost.

Professional companies must follow labor guidelines from the 🇺🇸 U.S. Department of Labor which require employees to be compensated for work-related travel between job sites.

Here in Michigan, businesses must also comply with laws like the Michigan Earned Sick Time Act 😷 which requires employees to accrue paid sick time based on hours worked.

📋 Behind every cleaning appointment are real operating costs that allow a professional business to function responsibly:

• technician wages
• payroll taxes contributing to programs like Social Security Administration
• travel time and fuel
• supplies and equipment
• equipment maintenance and replacement
• insurance and licensing
• scheduling, estimates, and office work

When you hire a local legitimate business, you’re helping: 👨‍👩‍👦
• keep people employed locally
• support fair wages and worker protections
• contribute to Social Security and Medicare
• allow businesses to sponsor community programs
• keep money circulating in the local economy

Professional cleaning isn’t just about cleaning a home. 🧽
It’s about paying people fairly and running a sustainable business.

When a service price seems unusually cheap, it’s often because something behind the scenes isn’t being paid for.

Did you realize how much goes into running a professional cleaning service?

🚨 The “Clean Smell” In Your Home Might Not Be What You Think!

Let’s be honest for a second…
We like the clean smell too.

There’s something satisfying about walking into a freshly cleaned space and smelling that crisp, just-cleaned air.

But here’s the part most people don’t realize:
That smell is often chemicals still evaporating into the air.

And when cleaning products are used incorrectly or excessively, those chemicals can affect the air inside your home or business.

🧪 What research has found
Occupational health studies show that people regularly exposed to strong cleaning chemicals — like professional cleaners and healthcare workers — have higher rates of asthma and respiratory irritation than the general population.

Frequent exposure to products like:
• bleach
• ammonia
• disinfectant sprays
• high-concentration alcohol
has been associated with airway inflammation and reduced lung function over time.

In simple terms:
The products meant to make spaces healthier can also impact the people using them if they’re misused.

☣️ One common mistake can create toxic gas.

Many people think mixing cleaners makes them stronger or faster...It doesn’t.
It can make them dangerous.

Examples:
🚫 Bleach + ammonia = chloramine gas
🚫 Bleach + vinegar or acids = chlorine gas

Both gases can cause:
• burning eyes
• chest tightness
• coughing
• breathing difficulty
And in enclosed spaces, exposure can become serious very quickly.

🚫 More chemical does NOT mean more clean.

This is one of the biggest misconceptions in cleaning.
Cleaning chemicals are designed to work at specific dilution ratios and contact times.

Using more than directed can:
• leave chemical residue on surfaces
• worsen indoor air quality
• damage materials and finishes
• increase exposure for people and pets

Sometimes extra strong cleaning just means extra chemicals left behind.

💼 Why professional cleaning services cost what they do.

True professional cleaning isn’t just scrubbing surfaces.

It requires understanding:
• dilution ratios
• dwell time for disinfectants
• ventilation
• surface compatibility
• safe chemical combinations

If done correctly, cleaning protects the space without creating unnecessary chemical exposure.

If a low-cost cleaning service cuts corners, the shortcuts often show up in two ways:
• too many chemicals
• or the wrong chemicals

Neither creates a healthier environment.

🧼 The real takeaway
Whether you:
• hire a professional cleaner
• use a low-cost cleaning service
• or clean your home constantly (we get it — we’re a little OCD about it too)
remember this:

Cleaning chemicals are powerful tools. They work best when used exactly as directed.

❗️ More isn’t better.
‼️ Mixing isn’t always smarter.
🛑 And shortcuts can create risks you don’t see right away.

Because a healthy home isn’t just one that looks clean.
It’s one that’s cleaned safely. ✨

Today while our family was in Marquette for a quick appointment, we stopped into the Habitat for Humanity ReStore for the first time. Sitting there was a small portable washing machine — one just like the one we used years ago when we lived in a very small, drafty two-bedroom cabin.

Back then, we washed our clothes in a machine like that and hung everything around the cabin to dry. The house always smelled freshly washed — sometimes overwhelmingly so. It wasn’t easy then. It was a season of stretching every dollar, working nonstop, and doing whatever it took. We never went without our basic needs, but it was hard.

Standing there today, looking at that machine, I was instantly reminded of how far my husband and I have come. Ten years ago, we were praying for the life we have now. Somewhere along the way, in the busyness of building a business, raising kids, and just doing daily life — I forgot that.

I forgot what it took to get here.
I forgot how much God has carried us.
I forgot how blessed we truly are.

It may seem small, but that washing machine was a quiet reminder to pause and say thank you.

To my mother-in-law and my late father-in-law — without you, we would not be in the home we have today.
To our amazing, loyal clients — your continued support of our small family business is an immeasurable blessing to our family.
To the team members who have come and gone over the years — you have been grace in action. This is physically demanding work, and with a bad back, I truly could not have done this alone.

Sometimes we get so focused on the next goal that we forget to look back and see how many prayers have already been answered.

From the bottom of our hearts — thank you for being part of our journey. We do not take it for granted.

Hi — I’m Sarah, owner of Perry Good Cleaners.

I didn’t start this company as a dream business. I started it because my family needed stability. We were living in a 600 sq ft cabin with one space heater, and cleaning was how I made sure the bills got paid.

We grew, bought our home in Gladstone, and in 2019 I made it official. In 2022 my husband joined me and it became a true family company.

Over the years we’ve learned a lot — sometimes the hard way. We’ve improved our systems, training, and processes, and we put God at the center of every decision. Our goal has always stayed the same: provide reliable, consistent service you don’t have to think about.

If you’ve been considering help keeping up with your home or business, we’d truly appreciate the chance to earn your trust.

Your support keeps local families working — including ours!

Our Story

Owning a family business has been a dream of ours for quite some time. It wasn’t until recently that things seemed to present themselves in a way that it was now or never.

We are a close, God fearing family. Our hope is to provide a service unlike most other professional cleaning services in our little county. We strive to provide, not only, top notch cleaning and efficiency. But, also faith driven care and love. The clients we do have are like family to us. We love them as if they were our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, brothers... Honesty, integrity, love, care, ect...

Our hope is that our clients, and future clients, have what a loving family has...with us.
