The Glastonbury Fire Department recently held its annual recognition dinner where members were recognized for their years of service and educational achievements with the department. Among those recognized was Edward "Jake" Urbansky (center right) who was honored for his 60 years of service to Glastonbury. Also pictured are Deputy Chief Bruce Motowidlak, Chief Michael Thurz and Deputy Fire Chief Paul Cody.

A celebration of life in honor of former Glastonbury Police Dispatcher Tom Lenkiewicz will be held this weekend at the Colchester Fish and Game Club. Lenkiewicz served more than 43 years as a dispatcher in Glastonbury receiving numerous awards including certificates of commendation, a letter of recognition and the chief's achievement award. He was also named the Police Department's Employee of the Year in part for his quick thinking and leadership during an incident when a propane tanker went over an embankment on Rt. 2 that year. "I feel safe when Tom is dispatching ," a police officer told the Citizen when Lenkiewicz was named employee of the year. "He does the best to see that I go home safely."

Conservation Commission Chairwoman Ann Gault Galjan recently shared this photo with her fellow commissioners of a bobcat she photographed on her property off Hopewell Road. "He was ten feet from me but I am in my house and still if he weren't moving I wouldn't have seen him," she said.

Resident Christine McGinnis and her dog Hadfield recently enjoyed a trip across the Connecticut River aboard the Rocky Hill- Glastonbury Ferry. On the Rocky Hill side of the river they stopped for some lunch at the Ferry Grill.

The Architectural Site and Design Review Committee (ASDRC) was critical of an initial design for a three-story triplex off Pratt Street during a recent discussion of the project calling it a "giant blob" and expressing a desire to see changes to the plan. A resident recently shared this photo of a black bear and her four cubs taken outside her home on Cavan Lane on June 25. So far this year there have been 67 black bear sightings in Glastonbury according to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Emergency Management Director Bobby DiBella was recognized by the Glastonbury Town Council at its June 23 meeting for his many years of dedicated service to the town. This year DiBella celebrates his 60th year at Emergency Management - making him the longest serving employee in the town's history. Congratulations to Glastonbury Police Captain Mark Catania who this November will celebrate his 30th year with the department. Earlier this month we did a story where we spoke with Catania regarding his three decades with the department which has included work as a patrol officer, a Youth Division officer, traffic sergeant and lieutenant among other positions. "I can't tell you how appreciative I am for the opportunity to be here," Catania told the Citizen earlier this month. "I know a lot of cops in a lot of different places and when we get together and chat and talk I got the best deal. Glastonbury is a great place to work."

The Town Council and Town Plan and Zoning Commission recently discussed potential changes to the intersection of Main Street and Hebron Avenue associated with the new mixed use development being proposed near the intersection. Options the developer could pursue with town approval include doing nothing at the intersection, installing a traffic signal or perhaps even constructing a roundabout.
