In 1968, a Marine CH-46 crew was called to evacuate a reconnaissance Marine attacked by a roughly 400-pound tiger. The tiger was later flown out too.

In 1969, a Marine scout dog stood at the war dog cemetery at the 3rd MP Battalion compound west of Da Nang, where dogs killed while serving with Marine units were remembered.

The threat wasn’t always above the water.

In 1969, Marine SCUBA divers LCpl Greg Morrow and LCpl Wayne Hittle prepared to enter the water near the III MAF bridge at Da Nang. Their job included searching bridge pilings daily for enemy explosives.
