Spotlight on excellence - this week’s Wildcat of the Week has been making major moves! For Morgan McDonald, her cheerleading journey has truly been one to remember. From the first time she cheered under the Friday night lights, she knew she had found something special. Her loe for the sport started early - cartwheeling and flipping her way through childhood before realizing cheer was where she belonged. What keeps her passionate today are the friendships and memories she’s built along the way. But the road hasn’t a;ways been easy; Morgan has faced serious injuries, including a broken elbow, a torn ACL, and a torn meniscus. Through it all, she stayed strong-minded and determined, putting in the work to rebuild her strength and return to the sport she loves. Balancing school, cheer, and life can be challenging, but Morgan takes it week by week, focusing on priorities while still making time for herself and her friends. Her stepdad has been her greatest influence, teaching her to hold her head high no matter what others say. Morgan’s advice for those following her footsteps? “Be yourself in all that you do.” She believes cheerleading is about more than the skill - it’s about spirit, teamwork, and letting your personality shine. Guided by her coach’s reminder that “practice makes permanent,” Morgan carries those lessons both on and off the field. Through cheer, she’s learned the importance of teamwork and discovered that leaning on others can make everyone stronger. For Morgan, this chapter of her cheer career isn’t just about stunts and sidelines - it’s about growth, resilience, and unforgettable memories.

Through setbacks, hard work, and sheer determination, this Wildcat has proven what true determination looks like. For Michael Landers, football became a passion long before he ever put on the pads. “Watching my older brother play and watching the crowd cheering for him immediately piqued my interest in the sport,” he said. From that moment, he knew he wanted to be part of something bigger. His journey, though, hasn’t been easy. Michael faced one of his toughest challenges when he tore his ACL his sophomore year. “The most challenging part of my journey so far has definitely been tearing my ACL. I overcame it with hard work and dedication, along with countless hours in the gym regaining my strength back.” That drive paid off, and one of his proudest memories came soon after. “The moment that stands out as my favorite is when I was told for the first time that I would be a starter on Friday.” Michael credits his resilience and mindset to Adam Howard, a mentor he calls a second father. “He has taught me many things in life, but the one piece of advice that I will never forget is, ‘Lions don’t listen to sheep’s opinions.’” That wisdom has guided him both on and off the field. “It has taught me to be humble and work hard, even when everybody else isn’t,” he shared. His advice to others sums up his story perfectly: “Don’t listen to everyone else—work 100x harder than the people next to you.” For Michael, “competition fuels growth,” and his journey proves it every step of the way.

Our Wildcat of the Week shows what it means to work hard, dream big, and represent with heart. For Karter Koon, running has become more than just a way to stay in shape for soccer—it’s a way to challenge herself and grow with her teammates. “My main sport is soccer, so I needed a sport that helped keep me in shape year round,” she explained. What makes the experience most meaningful for Karter is the time spent alongside her teammates. “Being able to be out there with my girls and spending time with them, and being able to race with them and say I did it with the team,” she shared. Karter credits her friends as a source of strength and motivation, saying, “Having friends along the way, they help pick me up. They’re my strength and my rock. Just like Jesus is my rock.” Even during tough moments on the course, she keeps herself focused with a simple mindset: “Remembering that it will all be done after 3.1 miles.” Her advice for anyone looking to improve is straightforward: “Never give up, stay at it, and keep working.” Beyond running, Karter has learned valuable lessons about teamwork and dedication. “To get to know people outside of the sport, and bond with the team outside of practices,” she said, adding that the discipline she practices in sports has carried over to school and other areas of her life. When asked to sum up her experience in one word, Karter chooses coolio. “I use coolio because not only am I coolio, but we run coolio.” Her energy, determination, and team spirit make her a standout Wildcat.

Hard work pays off, and this week’s Wildcat proves it. For runner Kyle Bleich, what started as a simple interest has grown into a true passion. “When I was younger, I enjoyed running. I had a lot of people tell me that I would be good at track. I heard that cross country would be good for getting in shape for track, so I’ve just stuck with it since,” he explained. This year, he says, the energy from incoming freshmen has been a big motivator: “Seeing all of the freshmen come in this year has helped motivate me to keep going.” The journey hasn’t always been easy, and Kyle remembers his first race as one of his toughest moments. “I ran a 30-minute 5k race and I was so disappointed. Luckily I stuck with it and I brought my time down to an 18:57 last year.” His steady improvement is a clear sign of his determination. Balancing school, sports, and life can be a challenge, but Kyle has found a rhythm that works for him. “For me, balancing my sport with school has come easy. It’s as simple as focusing on school during school, and running after school. I fit social in wherever I can.” Along the way, he has looked to teammates for inspiration, especially former runner Troy Wrinkler. “Troy is my greatest influence. He told me that one bad race doesn’t define the season, so keep pushing forward.” When asked to sum up his running journey in just three words, Kyle chose fun, painful, and determination—a perfect reflection of the grit behind his success and the spirit that drives the Wildcats forward.

Get ready to meet the Wildcat whose passion and drive set them apart from the rest - Addisyn Haddock! From the moment she picked up a baton at the age of five, inspired by her mom who once twirled for the Florida Gators, she knew majorettes would be her passion. That early start, combined with the encouragement of her mother, set her on a path that continues to shine brightly today. Of all her achievements, one stands out as the most meaningful: becoming captain of the high school majorettes team. Leading her teammates, who she calls her “favorite girls,” has been both a dream come true and a blessing. She credits her success to one key strength - her ability to perform. Whether under the Friday Night Lights or during halftime, she knows how to bring energy, confidence, and joy to the field. When challenges arise, she leans on faith and friendship. Praying before each game and spending time with her teammates keeps her grounded and motivated. Her best advice to others? “Always have fun with what you’re doing. Always have confidence and love what you do at all times.” She also carries with her an important lesson from her mentors: even if you drop the baton, hold your head high and keep smiling. It’s a reminder that resilience and grace matter as much as skill. Beyond the sport itself, majorettes have given her so much more. The friendships she has made within the team and band have become family - a word she uses to summarize her entire experience. For her, being a majorette isn’t just about twirling; it’s about belonging, leading, and celebrating a community that feels like home.

Another week, another reason to be proud of our Wildcats - meet this week’s honoree, Jacob Ballinger! For Jacob, music is more than a pastime - it’s been a journey that shaped him as both a musician and a leader. “I’ve always wanted to learn an instrument,” Jacob said. “I can’t say one particular person inspired me, but the high school bands before me really pushed me to grow into what I am today.” That inspiration led him to one of his proudest accomplishments: being voted band captain. “It really means a lot to earn the respect of the band and know they want you to lead them.” Jacob believes one of his greatest strengths is his ability to listen and adapt. “I would definitely say my ability to listen, comprehend, and learn quickly. I’m really good at picking things up, and it helps me adapt to any situation. Challenges don’t discourage him - they motivate him. “You’ve got to keep your head uncluttered and just know what your main goal is. So keep your head up,” he explained. His advice for others who want to grow? “Practice and don’t get discouraged.” He also carries with him one of the best lessons he’s ever received: “Listen louder than you speak.” Band has also given Jacob something even bigger than musical skills - lifelong connections. “It’s helped me make so many friends, form bonds I normally wouldn’t have. It’s grown not only my skills as a leader, but also my skills as a person.” If he had to describe his experience in one word, Jacob chooses “Thrilling.” from competitions to concerts, to traditions like playing “Sweet, Sweet Spirit” before each performance, Jacob says the band always kept him on his toes and working toward something meaningful.
