A homebrew magic item for use in any campaign.

🪙 The Coin of the Jokewalker
Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement)

Origin: Gifted by a desert djinn out-riddled beneath a starlit sky in Zakhara, this coin embodies the power of chance, charm, and chaos.

Properties:
Balanced on the Edge. The coin always lands on its edge unless magically compelled otherwise. If the owner flips it and calls heads or tails, it lands accordingly only if it’s funny or dramatically appropriate.

Once per day, the owner can flip the coin and invoke one of the following effects (roll a d6 or choose based on tone):

d6 Result
1 “Tails, I bail!” — Teleport up to 30 feet to a spot you can see (bonus action). A faint echo of laughter is left behind.
2 “Heads up!” — Gain advantage on your next attack or ability check.
3 “Coin-toss Curse!” — Enemy within 30 feet suffers disadvantage on their next saving throw.
4 “Heads or Tails?” — Cast Mirror Image on yourself (lasts 1 minute).
5 “Flip the Odds!” — Reroll any single d20 roll (including enemy rolls) once. You must accept the second result.
6 “Jackpot!” — Regain one expended superiority die, rage, or spell slot (1st level only). The coin chuckles when this happens.

Attunement Options:
🔸 Option 1: Trickster's Rite
To attune to the Coin of the Jokewalker, a character must perform a prank, riddle, or comedic act that causes genuine laughter or surprise in a creature they’ve just met.
“Magic follows mirth, and luck loves the bold.”

Optional Twist: If the act backfires or isn’t funny, the coin doesn’t attune—until the character laughs at themselves.

🔸 Option 2: The Laugh Heard ‘Round the World
The character must make three different people in three different regions of Faerûn laugh—noble, commoner, and outlaw alike. When the third person laughs, the coin glows faintly warm, and attunement is granted.

🔸 Option 3: A Flip of Fate
The character flips the coin during a moment of uncertainty or danger (a crossroads, trial, or moral dilemma). If they follow the coin’s result—regardless of consequence—the coin recognizes their faith in chance and bonds with them.

🔸 Option 4: A Fool’s Blessing
Attunement is only possible after failing spectacularly—falling in battle while telling a joke, getting publicly embarrassed but laughing it off, or causing unintended chaos that still led to good.
It’s not about failure—it’s about grace and humor in the face of it.

🔸 Option 5: Laughter Over Law
The character must reject a rigid law, unjust authority, or oppressive tradition in defense of someone weaker. The coin bonds to those who prize freedom over order, and mirth over misery.

Hello, Fellow DMs!

I'm interested in opinions regarding the high-level Vecna: Eve of Ruin campaign. I'm currently running Eve of Ruin for a veteran group. We're a little over halfway through the adventure (16th level), and this party brought their A-game with some serious builds.

As written, the players and I agree that the adventure is underwhelming. At least so far, it has some serious plot holes and few truly death-defying encounters. I've had to make significant adjustments to keep the party adequately challenged, which is ironic considering the adventure is designed for high-level play.

Has anyone else (player or DM) had the same experience?
