Back in the day, practice after the practice continued. Paul's dad "Pappy" made this backboard hoop where countless games were played on that driveway under the Westphal Athletic Code.

"The hoop and backboard he built over our garage was the best homemade
setup I have ever seen.
He gave up wine, flying, motorcycles, softball, and golf for his family.
Probably ci**rs, too. He never expressed regret about any of them. But I
suspect his incurable hook made it easier to quit golf.
Don’t even start to imagine that he ever turned down a piece of See’s
Candies.
If someone in his family started to get the sniffles, he’d slice up an orange,
top it with powdered sugar, and make sure it was eaten. No negotiations.
If he thought another family member wanted a certain food item, he’d
starve before grabbing it for himself.
He wore a watch and his wedding ring. No jewelry. When he went bald,
he took it like a man.
He wouldn’t steal so much as a pencil from work if it didn’t belong to
him.
He never told someone who he was. He showed them. And he always
delivered more than he promised.
That was my dad. My greatest example and mentor."
