A fast moving fire broke out at the Caribou Hotel in downtown Glennallen Wednesday morning. Hotel Manager Carrie Shaw says there were no injuries to occupants or employees, but the hotel is a total loss.
Gakona Fire Chief Jason Severs says they were called about 8:10 Wednesday morning. 30 minutes later, the entire building was engulfed in flames.
Initially hotel occupants were evacuated to the Caribou Grill, which is adjacent to the hotel. But as the fire spread, all patrons of the Caribou Grill were ordered to leave.
The hotel was completely destroyed, along with four vehicles parked near the hotel. The Caribou Grill sustained no damage, but Shaw said the restaurant will remain closed Wednesday.
Shaw said they are working to find housing for the Caribou employees who lived in the hotel.
