Difficult decision
Last issue of the Glenwood Herald to be published October 30, 2025

There are times when difficult decisions must be made.
Last Summer, my wife, Gail, and I found out that the owners of the Glenwood Herald were planning on making changes with the publication of the newspaper. Then editor Mike Wallace was retiring and the decision was made to consolidate the Glenwood Herald with the Murfreesboro Diamond.
The owner reached out to us and asked if we would be interested in purchasing the Glenwood Herald. This was not one of those difficult decisions mentioned earlier. We had recently moved to Glenwood and it made sense to us. Besides, the Glenwood Herald had been a part of the Glenwood community for 98 years and we wanted to preserve that legacy.
So contracts were signed and we took ownership of the Glenwood Herald July 1, 2024. As owners of the Montgomery County News we felt the two papers complimented one another and I believed I would be able to carry on the legacy of accurate, honest reporting long found in the Glenwood Herald.
Throughout the past year and two months, it has become painfully obvious to me that I am not able to provide the comprehensive coverage that the community deserves from their local newspaper. While we have made some changes to improve the newspaper, I don’t feel we have been able to give it the attention it deserves.
Manning two newspapers by myself has been almost insurmountable at times. Trying to cover events in two communities while selling ads and running an office has been daunting.
Coupled with the fact that the circulation for the Glenwood Herald has dropped with fewer than 150 subscribers at this time, we have made the difficult decision to cease publication of the Glenwood Herald at the end of this month.
This decision did not come easily and it breaks my heart to do so. However, it is the right decision at this time for myself and my family. I am thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the legacy of the Glenwood Herald and will continue to cover events in the community as much as possible in the Montgomery County News.
To our subscribers and those who read our paper we thank you for your patronage and support. We are offering to transfer all current subscriptions to the Montgomery County News. All current subscribers will receive a full year of the Montgomery County News beginning in November.
Once again, thank you for your support. It has been my honor to serve the community over the last year.

We are looking to make some changes with the Glenwood Herald and are in need of someone to sell ads for us. If you are willing to cover a meeting or two that would be helpful as well. The work will be on a contract basis.
DM me here or email me at [email protected] if you are interested.

We have had several subscribers who didn't receive a renewal notice in February. I want to apologize for this and promise to do a better job making sure they make it to you in the future.
For those wondering about your subscription... You can find your expiration date on your label that is attached to your paper each week.
Once again, I am truly sorry for any inconvenience anyone may have experienced.

Well, I made my first glaring error in the Glenwood Herald this week. (well, at least the first that I have noticed)
As you all know, Centerpoint School District is not in Rosston. It is in Rosboro.
In my defense, I build three other newspapers beside my two. One of the papers covers Nevada School District which is in Rosston. I guess I got the two towns confused in my head.
I will strive to keep it straight in the future. Please forgive my error.
And thank you to those who pointed it out privately by messenger. I can handle criticism, but the gesture was appreciated.

With the second issue on the newsstands, I have a moment to catch my breath before starting on next week's paper.
A few thoughts come to mind...
1) There will always be some level of overlap in coverage with the Montgomery County News. However, I find myself using more than I would like to fill the Glenwood Herald in our first weeks. My hope is there are people or organizations that would like to share what they are doing in the community. Feel free to submit your ideas and/or columns for consideration in our local paper.
2) Our church page is a special space in the paper for me. It took me a long time to start writing a column for it, but I find myself looking forward to it now. I am thankful for Jerry Griffin's article that we print in the Montgomery County News each week and would love to find a preacher or Bible teacher in the Glenwood area who would be interested in sharing a column for the Glenwood Herald. If you are interested please let me know. If we have more than one interested we can always rotate columns in the paper.
3) Local support has been encouraging so far. I know there will be times when we may not see eye to eye, but I pledge to always do my best to provide honest, fair, and true information in the Glenwood Herald. While I am not a "trained" journalist, I have always tried to be as honest with my coverage as possible. I think that is the best approach.
4) I ask for your patience and continued support as we continue to make changes to the Glenwood Herald. We are working on updating our current website to include the Glenwood Herald. Online subscriptions are not currently available, but we are working on that as well.
5) Finally, thank you for your support and if there is anything we can do please let us know. You can send a message here on Facebook, call us at (870) 867-2821, or email me at [email protected]
