Gila County Commends Governor Hobbsโ€™ Emergency Declaration Amid Severe Flooding

GILA COUNTY, Ariz. โ€” The Gila County Board of Supervisors is grateful to Governor Katie Hobbs for declaring a State of Emergency in response to the severe flooding that began on September 25. The declaration makes state resources immediately available, including emergency funds, the Arizona National Guard, and coordination through the State Emergency Operations Center.

โ€œThis swift action brings much-needed resources to our communities as we respond to a disaster that has already cost lives and damaged critical infrastructure,โ€ the Board said in a joint statement.

โ—๏ธCurrent Conditions
Heavy rains overwhelmed waterways in and around Globe, Miami, Claypool, and San Carlos leading to significant flooding. At least three deaths have been confirmed, with additional people unaccounted for. Nearly 1,000 propane tanks were swept from a distribution facility, creating hazardous conditions, and portions of U.S. 60 remain closed due to debris and flood damage.

Gila County Emergency Management has activated the Emergency Operations Center while County emergency crews, with support from state and regional partners, have deployed search and rescue teams, and opened shelters for displaced residents.

The Board extends its appreciation to the countyโ€™s legislative representatives, Tribal partners, local governments, and first responders for their rapid response.

Residents are urged to avoid flood-impacted areas, heed evacuation instructions, and monitor official alerts for road closures and safety updates.

09/27/2025

Our hearts are heavy as we face the tragedy that the flooding has left in its wake. Among the confirmed casualties is our own Heather Johnson, mother, daughter, community member. Her life was lived with intention and will continue to be remembered by us and everyone else that she has touched. Rest In Peace, Heather.

๐Ÿšจ Public Safety Alert โ€“ Stay Out of Downtown and Creeks ๐Ÿšจ

Historic Downtown Globe is currently unsafe, with compromised buildings as well as hazardous chemicals and debris, including propane tanks. For your safety, please stay out of the area until further notice.

We also ask everyone to stay out of the creek. Search and rescue operations are underway, and any traffic in the area can interfere with rescue teams and throw off the scent work of trained dogs.

โš ๏ธ More rain is expected today. We do not need additional people in the flood zone. Extra traffic puts lives at risk and makes it harder for first responders to do their jobs.

We understand the deep desire to help right now, our community always steps up.

But the best way to help at this time is to have patience and allow trained professionals the space to do what is needed.

We will continue to share updates as soon as they are available.
