After nearly 15 years with the organization, Caitlin Donnelly has been named the new Executive Director of the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society.

“I’m most excited to take what I’ve learned about the shelter and the community for the past 15 years and use it,” she said.

In October of 2011, Donnelly answered a classified advertisement in the Gloucester-Mathews Gazette-Journal to work in the shelter’s cat mall.

“Who knew that would turn into my career,” she said. She assumed the executive director position on Monday. “I started just cleaning cat cages, a part-time job.”

Since then, Donnelly has been involved in just about every facet of operations at GMHS. She has served as an assistant manager, animal placement coordinator, and communications specialist, experience that is proving to help Donnelly in her new role.

Right now, our Pet Pantry is completely out of food. We need your help to keep pets in our community fed and with the families who love them! For many pet owners facing financial hardship, the GMHS Pet Pantry provides a vital lifeline. Every bag of food donated helps ensure a beloved pet doesn't go hungry or end up in the shelter.

Donations can be dropped off at Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society or you can shop our Chewy and Amazon Wish Lists.

Together, we can fill these shelves and help local families keep their pets healthy, happy, and at home. Every bag helps! ❤

The Gloucester High School varsity softball team has just defeated James Wood 6-2 in the state semifinal match 🥎 The Lady Dukes will return to Woodgrove High School tomorrow to play for the state championship title ❤️💛 UPDATE: Gloucester will face Region C champion Tuscarora at 11 a.m. Saturday at Woodgrove H.S. Tuscarora defeated Patrick Henry 5-1 in the other state semifinal game held today to earn the right to play for the state title

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors invites residents to attend a Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Thomas Calhoun Walker Education Center Auditorium (6099 T. C. Walker Road).
