“God Bless Minneapolis” my memoir of a 7 year journey, was written as an expression of thanks for a life renewed, refreshed and everlasting gratitude that changed me from a person living day to day to one that lives in the moment, gives up control to have control, and keeps me ever so humble.

MRSA had overtaken the bones in my ankle and foot, and I had no idea how septic it was, because I did not know I had it until discussion with physicians turned from “this will heal” to “it would be “for the best to amputate” as it was moving up into my ankle. At that time, I was not given any alternative treatments, nor did I know of any.

I spent months in Minneapolis shuttling from the Days Inn University to the Hennepin County Medical Center’s Hyperbaric Chamber to spend 2 hrs daily in the chamber. The doctors were willing to try, but I learned none of them believed it would work.

After 40+ treatments, I truly felt I was given the breath of life. The idea of oxygen healing was too simple.

After months I returned to Mayo, and the Medical personnel who told me “oxygen would never work” had a look. Although such a large portion of bone was gone, what was left was, as told to me “the cleanest bone ever seen.”

I then asked if my foot could be rebuilt. The surgeon told me a bone graft of mine and likely coral would be used.

It was rebuilt, and again, the physicians were quite skeptical, although they did not share that with me. I get it now—I would’ve given up hope, and my nature is to “never give up.”

In October 2010, my book launch took place at the Hennepin County Medical Center, along with me sharing my story on video by WCCO TV.

The book title arose from my gratitude for all the times I was protected; either surrounded by people who didn’t know me, and the homeless people in downtown Minneapolis who helped me off and on the shuttle every day, either saying “God Bless you, or “I’ll pray for you. None of them told me their names, but we’re so generous as to want to share their food with me during the gloomy, below zero days of December 2007 and February 2008. It truly is those who have the least who share the most.

I cannot live long enough to give back, so I am spending my life attempting in what seem like small ways to pay it forward.

I am thankful for this life-changing experience beyond words.

Last December, I was contacted by Rob Beckman, a military veteran, and the best cheerleader ever to arrrive to offer his hands and heart in raising awareness to the importance of “lifting up the state of the veteran.” This indefatigable veteran’s advocate cannot be silenced or stopped, nor should he be, from doing all he can, whenever possible, to “return them to center” once again, even in the face of making the insurmountable indeed surmountable.

His site TreatNOW.org. Is dedicated to that purpose.

Do not pass go, before checking it out. Your life could clearly depend on it.

Had he not contacted me, I , like much of the population, would not have an inkling of the assistance he and so many others have dedicated their lives to in relieving symptoms—so very many—of fellow veterans as a consequence of time served. No one is more deserving of capturing the minds and hearts than those who served on our behalf.

He asked if I would assist by contributing to social media and allow him to use my story about success of wound healing by treating it with something almost too simple—breathing oxygen in a pressurized chamber, otherwise known as a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. It is such a small thing to do, and if anyone benefits from my experience, it is absolutely worth it.

it is also worth everything to get rid of headaches, especially migraines. I’ve not had a headache of any kind nor a migraine since my second week in the chamber, and that was 2007.

Nearly every day I either meet, hear or read about a veteran or active duty member of our country’s military struggling with conditions attributable to experiences during or after service, which reminded me so of my father’s time in the south Pacific during WWII, at least with what he did share, which was not much. This was not atypical and it wasn’t until he reached midlife we learned just how burdened he was by the fatigue of war. It was not possible to escape the haunting memories called simply “the cobwebs of war.” This was not at all helpful nor did it make sense or ever even discussed. I was so very proud of him for taking part in defending our country with thousands of others, enduring conditions most of us cannot begin to imagine. I get why veterans are bonded beyond nuclear families. I know theirs is the greatest generation, but I believe we baby boomers are blessed to live the life they fought for, which is the greatest gift.

However, veterans have been long overlooked, misdiagnosed or written off as having symptoms “in their head.” Of course they’re In their heads.” Where else are we to store such things?

I have so much respect for the military, not only because my brother served as well, but I, so not deserving, had my ankle and foot saved while those so much younger protecting thos country weren’t able to?

They deserve our thanks for many reasons; most striking to me is the humility stemming from unspoken honor, pride and patriotism so clearly evident in their entire being. It brings tears to my eyes, and I pray it alway will.

Please also read the research of Dr. Paul Harch, the pioneer in researching the brain’s ability to heal itself with hyperbaric oxygen treatments and absolute proof in his practice and findings.

I am privileged to be able to assist you, the pride of our nation,
in this endeavor. May God bless the memories of those who came before us, and embrace the legacy and contined devotion to bringing the lives so deserving of the best; because they are our best.

Heal Ohio 2011, October 20. I was honored and humbed to be the keynote speaker at the conference, and kicked it off at 7:30 a.m. that day. The hope was to start it off with a refreshing and successful look at healing; my healing came from hyperbaric oxygen treatments. I was able to save my foot from amputation; my mission in continuing to present my story is to give hope to those who may think there are no other options; and I sincerely wish all the physicians in attendance all the best in supporting that decision.
