Here is another angle of the demo on our current project. We like to cut the joist down the middle using a sawzall this gives us leverage to pull the joist out of the hanger and breaks everything down to manageable lengths that fit into the dumpster. My son and I build decks together, and over the weekend our work trailer was stolen along with our tools.

To the builders and trades out there, please protect your equipment. Alarms, cameras, heavy locks, gps tags. If you rely on it to make a living, secure it.

I truly hope whoever took it gets the help they need. Addiction ruins lives on all sides, and there are resources out there for anyone ready to get clean.

As for us, we are not stopping. We are going shopping, replacing everything with brand new tools, and getting back to work.

Well my mind is made up. Ten years old.
And already failing.

This is what happens when framing is left unprotected.

Water + fasteners + time = rot.

Modern deck building means:
• protecting joists
• sealing fastener penetrations
• upgrading materials beyond bare PT lumber

Products like FastenMaster joist coating and proper joist tape dramatically extend the life of a deck.

If you’re replacing a deck, this matters more than the surface boards.
