Check out this 1920 menstrual hygiene napkin in the original box we just added to our collection. Not for sale…just show and tell 😎
A little blurb about these: Dr Pierre’s Hygeiaforms’ from around the 1920s. Claiming to possess antiseptic and germicide properties, they were advertised to have ‘healing, strengthening, and tonic effects on the most delicate [vaginal] tissues’ and promised to cure all ‘Diseases of the Pelvic Organs’, including amenorrhea (no bleeding), excessive discharge, and period pain. Unsurprisingly, the product was found to contain none of the aforementioned properties and in 1931, a court in New York seized and destroyed the last remaining eleven boxes of product in Illinois, after it was found fraudulent.-source and credit goes to www.operatingtheater.com
