Let me tell you about a time I almost quit.

I was in college online. A full grown woman. Working hard. House full of kids. And I was sitting at that computer so discouraged I could barely see straight.

I was writing a paper and I kept getting the rules wrong. Every time I turned something in, my professor marked it all up and my grades were terrible in some of those classes. I just sat there staring at the screen thinking, this is not for me. I really wanted to cry.

One day I finally said it out loud to my youngest daughter, Genesis. I told her, "Genesis, I just don't feel like doing this classwork anymore."

She said, "Mom, do like I do."

I said, "Like you do what?"

She said, "When something gets hard for me, I do a little bit of it. Then I take a break. I go downstairs and get some ice cream. Then I come back and do a little bit more. Then I take another break. I go do my hair. I do my lashes. I do my nails. Basically what I do, Mom, is I chunk it. I take breaks."

Y'all. My baby was teaching me.

So I'm telling somebody today what she told me. Reward yourself. When it gets heavy, step away for a minute. Take the break. Get the ice cream. Do your hair. Whatever you need. Then go back and do a little more.

You don't have to carry it all at once. And please hear me. Don't be too hard on yourself.
