Depicted here by one artist, Queen Vashti was known throughout the ancient world for her beauty - in fact, her very name meant beauty. And yet, her refusal to provocatively display her beauty for the king and his guests was radical in many ways and sent shock waves throughout the court and the kingdom.

Today, as we launch our study in the book of Esther, we use the queen’s radical refusal to talk about a sometimes touchy subject - submission in Christian marriage - but not just that! We look at how God has designed order and peace for each of our relationships!! Believe it or not, we choose submission every day in various other relationships, and there even was submission within the roles of the Trinity despite their perfect equality!

I have seen too many people’s love grow cold once they settle into more comfortable lifestyles and relationships. Sometimes, they walk away from Christ altogether and end up in places they never thought they would be.

Today’s message in Ruth offers GREAT HOPE if you or the people you love find yourself drifting, even a little bit, from that original course you know God has set for you. The call is simple—return. Come home.

Enlist it.

How could one Man be approached so easily by the destitute, sought by the sick, loved by children, and trusted by the marginalized?

One word. Gentleness.

Jesus said it best of Himself:

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:28-29).

He described Himself as gentle, and in Philippians 4:5, today we learn that our gentleness, too, should be known to all men because the Lord is at hand.

In today’s episode we also explore some of the most famous passages in Phillippians, including verse 6-7, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
