Parents, we need to start having the difficult conversations with our kids about online safety and digital threats. I know these talks can feel uncomfortable, but silence is far more dangerous than the conversation itself.
Today, predators do not have to go anywhere to reach a child — they act as peers online. They pretend to be the same age. They share interests. They compliment. They build trust slowly. And once they have that trust, they start creating secrets.
They tell kids, “Don’t tell your parents.”
They push for selfies, then more harmful images.
And once a child shares something they regret, these predators may turn to sextortion — threatening, demanding, and controlling.
And it’s not only individuals doing this. Organized criminal groups, like the 764 organization, are actively targeting children online, using manipulation, pressure, and fear to exploit them.
This is why our conversations at home matter more than ever. When kids know the tactics — pretending to be a friend, creating private chats, asking for photos, building secret relationships — they’re much more likely to recognize danger early and come to us for help.
Awareness protects kids.
And these conversations can be the difference between safety and harm.
