Rimfire (named after a town in the show "The Big Valley" for those of a "certain age") was won by my son when my son was 12 in a national essay contest! Rimfire stars in my book, "Rimfire: The Barrel Racing Morgan Horse," and is also the star of my forthcoming book, "The Five-Dollar Horse." When I was writing the first Rimfire book, my son was training Rimmie to be a western horse, thus the barrel racing theme. But Rimmie decided he wanted to be a spunky English pleasure horse. My new book, "The Five-Dollar Horse" chronicles Rimfire's life, culminating in back-to-back world titles in saddle seat road hack. While he's won a lot, he's a sweet, sweet horse and is a favorite of the kids at the barn. Last winter, after winning his second world title at 19, Rimmie transitioned to walk/trot with little kids, participating in the winter academy shows in our area, winning first place in almost every class. He took several riders to their first-ever blue ribbons. There were lots of tears shed by parents and riders alike. He is a very special horse. "The Five-Dollar Horse" will be out later this year.
