Tomorrow, principal photography begins on Where He Left Himself.

Today is all about arriving at location, walking the rooms one more time, staging the space, checking camera angles, testing light, and getting everything ready before the cast and crew arrive in the morning.

This little film has lived in my head for a while, and it’s a special feeling to finally stand in the house where Helen and Arthur’s story will come to life.

We’re filming in Glen Rose, Texas, with the ARRI Alexa Mini and DZO Arles primes, building a quiet, intimate visual world around memory, grief, love, and all the little pieces of someone that remain after they’re gone.

A great performance can still be harder to evaluate if the self-tape setup is working against you.

Three things actors often overlook:

Eyeline — Where you place your reader changes how the performance feels on camera.

Lighting & background — You don’t need a movie set, but casting does need to see you clearly without distractions.

Reader placement — Too far off-camera, too close to lens, or constantly moving can all affect the way your performance reads.

These are exactly the kinds of things we’ll break down hands-on at the Tame Rabbit Self-Tape Audition Workshop, along with framing, sound, slates, submissions, and what casting actually needs to see.
