This Is Historic! 2026 marks the SEMI-QUIN-centennial (250th anniversary) of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, the SES-QUI-centennial (150th anniversary) of Colorado statehood in 1876, and the CENTENNIAL (100th anniversary) of the completion of The Historic Lowell School Building in 1926.
In 2026 we also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the federal Historic Tax Credit (HTC). The federal HTC has rehabilitated or created over 650,000 housing units across the US, found new uses for buildings instead of sending them to landfills, created over 3 million jobs, spurred economic activity, and preserved our nation’s historic places. Reforms are badly needed to federal and state HTC programs to reduce the administrative and financial barriers to entry for smaller phased historic preservation projects. Nevertheless, HTC programs remain a critical community development tool that should be maintained and expanded.
The Historic Lowell School Building is grateful to all of our community supporters and funding partners. We invite you to join us this year (and beyond) to celebrate our shared histories with pride and reflection.
