“For 90 minutes, the board heard comments from the public about the decision to instate Fry and Croft. Former CMU Spanish professor and 2024 Mesa County Commissioner candidate Tom Acker spoke on the matter.

“I would’ve thought the commissioners board would’ve considered the quality of the existing members,” Acker said. “There are no explanations for the board of commissioners making this opaque move. Board members need to look to the interests of our community rather than outside influences. Don’t impose an ideological bent on a thriving institution.”

Other concerns revolved around both accessibility in the library and the potential for future book bans at the MCPLD.

“The library is intended as a resource for the entire community,” a CMU English Major attending the hearing said. “For the children and adults of any race, religion, gender or sexual orientation. Just as it is in the real world, each individual is allowed to make their own decision as to what materials they choose to check out.”

While on the basketball team at CMU, Brandon said she felt accepted and supported for who she was. She attributed that to the safe and welcoming environment that the coaches Taylor Wagner and Hannah Pollart fostered for the team.

“My whole time at CMU, it almost feels like a dream,” Brandon said through tears. “They always just loved me for me, and so it was never anything I had to worry about, like, the color of my skin, my sexuality, it just didn’t matter.”

The complaint and jury demand stated that Brandon’s contract at GJHS was not renewed at the end of the 2023-2024 school year even though she claims she “consistently performed well as a District 51 employee.” Under the factual allegations, her lawyers indicated that during her two years at GJHS, every single progress report she received demonstrated that she “met or exceeded expectations, without exception.”

“Newly hired executive assistant to the vice president for Student Services Isabel Manzanares reportedly spearheaded The Pantry’s return to anonymity.
“I’ve talked to Isabel briefly about it and she just wants people to be comfortable about going in there, and having the door closed is another barrier,” Fregoso said. She started at Student Services at the same time as Manzanares.
Manzanares initiated a partnership with CMU Tech’s Culinary Arts program through CUAR 115, or Introduction to Sustainable Cuisine. She worked with associate technical professor of culinary arts Wayne Smith on this new project.
“Last spring, a group of students were inspired to start a chapter of [the] Food Recovery Network on our campus to reduce food waste. Students from that group are now collecting food that is left from culinary classes and packaging it as ‘heat and eat’ meals,” Smith said”

“CMU followed up their 81–52 win over Simon Fraser with a 92–53 rout of Sul Ross State, closing out the homestand with two of their sharpest offensive performances so far.

Against Simon Fraser, CMU shot 52.5 percent from the field, won every quarter, and owned the paint with a 44–20 scoring advantage inside. The Mavericks also dominated the glass and forced 17 turnovers, which tied directly into how fast and clean their offense operated”
