Today is the 25th Anniversary. I remember sitting in my high school's library in shock, watching the TV. Like many Americans and humans throughout the world, not comprehending why or what all was happening.
On the 19th Anniversary, we visited an ironic... but deeply meaningful piece of graffiti.
The other-half of Just Beyond Parks, Cole, and his brother were fishing on September 11, 2001. They happened to have spray paint with them and chose to graffiti the date on the bridge that they were fishing under.
They had no idea the tragedy that occurred that morning until they got home and saw it on TV. As silly or naughty the graffiti may have seemed in the moment, it was shockingly sprayed in red paint, and so many years later it's our own private Graffiti Memorial to those who lost their lives that day and in the years to come, a place to honor those lives, the survivors, and their loved ones. I'm thankful that, respectively, no one had covered it up. It must mean that we, as Americans, remember.
We all remember.
It's a memory we talk about every year around and on this tragic anniversary. Today we once again... Pause. Honor. Remember. And Never Forget.
