A lot has changed since my last list in 2023 — I’ve played hundreds of new games, and this year’s rankings feature way more movement than usual. Some fresh titles have burst onto the scene, while a few longtime favorites have fallen off the list completely.

Angel’s Share from Capstone Games is an interesting economic game all about trying to buy, age, and sell whiskey for the most profit. You’re doing your best to predict the fluctuations of the market to buy low and sell high. I need more time with it, but it’s definitely got a lot of potential!

We played a whole mess of spooky games over the last week! It started off playing The Bloody Inn, Nightmare Productions, Evil Dead 2 1%, and Fearsome Floors with Evan and Missy. Then last night I FINALLY had a chance to play Fury of Dracula! Plus, our copy of Spooktacular from Level 99 Games showed up just in time for Halloween!

The Hobbit: There and Back Again is a neat roll-and-write from Dr. Knizia and published by Office Dog Games. It has some very charming artwork, and the production quality on the adventure books is quite good! I can’t wait to try other scenarios to see what changes!

It had been a while since we got this classic to the table! Cosmic Encounter has been around for decades, and there’s a reason it keeps coming back over and over again! That being said, it lives in a very strange place for me. Too chaotic to be a strategy game, too strategic to be a party game. But, there’s always a ton of laughter around the table whenever we play. It’s very good at being exactly what it is, I suppose. 😆

Cryo, from Z-Man Games, was more enjoyable than I expected! Yeah, there’s definitely more negative player interaction than most games of its type but it didn’t feel overly devastating since the hate was spread around pretty evenly. I’d definitely play it again!
