A collaborative effort between the YMCA, the City of Grand Rapids, the Grand Rapids Area Basketball Association, and the Itasca County Pickleball Association (ICPA) will see the entire outdoor complex resurfaced in a project totaling nearly $80,000.

Work is scheduled to begin as soon as the weather stabilizes—specifically, temperatures must stay above 55°F. While the project is underway expect closures for up to two weeks. Signage and website updates will keep the public informed of the timeline.

Schiffman said northern Minnesota’s dense forests and brushy understory create ideal habitat for ticks.

GRAND RAPIDS — As warmer weather settles across northern Minnesota and residents head outdoors for hiking, fishing, yardwork and spring cleanup, state health officials say tick season is already underway
