We're live now to discuss an important local initiative: the 2025 Veteran Cemetery Wreath Program! S.A.L. Squadron 76 of American Legion Post #76 is sponsoring this effort, called 'Wreaths Across Mason County.'

The goal is to place hundreds of wreaths on veterans' graves throughout Mason County cemeteries to ensure they are recognized during the holiday season. Last year, 425 wreaths were placed, and this year, the hope is to honor 600 or more veterans.

The coordinator is asking citizens, families, and friends of deceased veterans to sponsor a wreath with a minimum $25 donation. This covers the cost of the locally sourced wreath materials and the grave site stake. Distribution will be on Saturday, November 29th. Volunteers will place each wreath with dignity, saying the veteran’s name and offering a salute.

How to Donate: Mail your check (made payable to American Legion Post 76, attention Bob Mitchell) to: American Legion Post 76 318 N. James Street, Ludington, MI 49431

Please include the veteran's name, the sponsor's name, the cemetery name, and your phone number. The deadline for donations is November 14th. Your support will help honor a veteran, even if they have no local family.

We are live now with Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole to discuss Operation Safe Stop! This statewide enforcement campaign runs October 20–24, 2025, aligning with National School Bus Safety Week. The focus is clear: cracking down on drivers who illegally pass stopped school buses.

Sheriff Cole will discuss the alarming data, including a one-day survey in May 2025 where 2,207 incidents of motorists passing stopped buses illegally were reported. Last year, there were 54 crashes in Michigan involving activated stop arms and lights, resulting in 26 injuries and 1 fatality.

Tune in to review the rules: drivers must stop at least 20 feet away from a stopped school bus when the red lights and stop-arm are extended. Sheriff Cole will also outline the serious penalties for violations, which can include fines up to $500 for a civil infraction, and felony charges if a violation causes a death.

We're live now with Erin Doan from Erin Doan State Farm Insurance to discuss an essential but often overlooked type of coverage: Disability Insurance!

Did you know that about 1 in 4 people will experience a disability that prevents them from working for at least a year during their career? For most people, your ability to earn an income is your most valuable asset, and disability insurance protects it by replacing a portion of your income if you can't work due to illness or injury.

Erin will clarify common misconceptions, like believing Workers' Compensation will fully cover you, and explain why employer plans might be limited. With nearly half of American families lacking enough savings to cover basic expenses for just two months , this coverage is a critical financial safety net.
