Bad Idea Social Club

Bad Idea Social Club It’s for growers and showers and failures and friends—an interview-style podcast with new episodes every week and blog features sprinkled about.

Freelance graphic designer and independent artist, Aaron McCall, has set out to collect stories, insights, and ideas from artists, writers, photographers, musicians, and a whole mess of other wildly talented creatives. Bad Idea Social Club is a collection of honest conversations, without judgment or filters, about creativity and life and processes and f*cking up and all that sh*t.

Okay, that’s a wrap on season 7! We picked up a few new stragglers along the way so we thought we’d take a minute and reintroduce ourselves.

The dude on the left is Aaron McCall. He started this thing and continues to pour his blood and tears into it season after season. He’s the one sitting down with our guests and having conversations about creativity, life, and the messes we make as both people and creatives. He’s also a full-time freelance graphic designer and independent artist, so there’s that.

And that’s Joe Dustin-Cody Matteson on the right. He’s our co-host and photographer and he’s been here since season 2 as both the voice of reason and chaos. And it’s his fault we moved to a video-first format. Check out his studio: The Mattesons

Anyways, that’s us. Thanks for being here and supporting the podcast.

We end every single conversation with the same question: Are you okay?

Check on your people. Tell them you love them. It probably means more than you’d think.

Season 7 is out now in its entirety and we wanted to thank Amy Carroll, Ryan Wasson, Hannah Berry, Joel Hoekstra, AB, Mark Stein, Luke Grill, Sara Pulver, and Anna van Schaap for their vulnerability and willingness to share their stories. Go get it now pretty much wherever you get your podcasts.

Anna is a painter, tattooer, curator, and photographer who has spend more than a decade building something in Detroit that genuinely unlike anything else. Her work is as brutal and beautiful as her story.

Sara is an illustrator, muralist, and the artist behind . She draws weird animals small enough to mail and big enough to stop you on the street. She owns a stationery shop in downtown Lansing, runs on whimsy and ADHD, and has been doing it all on her own terms. She’s also one of the most self-aware people we’ve ever met.
