The tribalism between AEW fans and WWE fans is exhausting. Let me educate you on some things because let me tell you a lot of pro wrestling fans lack intelligence. Just go on Twitter/X and you'll lose a lot braincells reading some of the garbage that's posted regularly. Here are some facts.
-AEW was founded in 2019. WWE was founded in 1953 (previously known as Capitol Wrestling, WWWF, and WWF). We are talking about a 70 year history versus a 7 year history. It's comparing apples to oranges.
-WWE under the TKO banner is a publicly traded company, which means they have answer to shareholders, advertisers, and a board of directors. Tony Khan doesn't have to answer to anyone and has the freedom to do what he pleases within reason of what the networks he's on will allow.
-AEW is about delivering classic pro wrestling matches. WWE is about creating moments, memories, and milestones. Nothing is wrong with either approach. Pro Wrestling is and always will be subjective.
Here is another very important fact that most people might see as an opinion. Today's pro wrestling fan would have never survived the Monday Night Wars, especially with a lot of the stuff that Eric Bischoff pulled. Thankfully, there was no social media back then so everyone could live in the moment and not on a keyboard and posting their irrelevant opinion.
The modern day pro wrestling fan needs to take a hard look in the mirror because a lot of them say a lot of crap through a keyboard that they would never have the guts to say in person. Thats why they are called keyboard warriors and cowards.
You can love one company/show without hating the other. You can have conversations about the show you love without talking down or insulting someone who watches the other show. From 1994 to mid 1999, I was a WCW guy. A lot of my friends were WWE guys. I didn't insult them or talk down to them because they loved the other show more. We always had amazing conversations about why we loved the shows we did.
My advice is this: watch what you enjoy watching. Enjoy what ever you watch and leave others alone with what ever it is that they enjoy watching. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. Peace Out!
