What if the best part of the journey isn’t the destination?

For Jamie and Ryan, it was everything in between.

They set out to connect two of Northern Minnesota’s familiar destinations Ely and Grand Marais, but intentionally avoided the usual routes. Instead, they followed gravel roads, logging trails and hidden stretches of the Superior National Forest, carrying bikes and packrafts as they went.

The route didn’t always go according to plan. Roads disappeared. Bridges were washed out. Rivers became trails, trails became rivers, and a few days brought plenty of mud, mosquitoes and rain.

But that’s exactly what they were after.A different way of experiencing a place they thought they knew.

“The memorable parts were never really the hubs themselves. They were all the overlooked spaces in between.”

As September brings a season of change, the bright blues and greens of summer slowly begin to transition into crisp shades of red, orange, and gold. 🍂

There’s something refreshing about a season of change. It reminds us just how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful area, where nature puts on a new show with every passing season.

As we gradually say goodbye to summer, we encourage you to slow down and notice what’s around you. Whether it’s planning a trip to take in the fall leaves or simply enjoying a long walk along your favorite body of water, take advantage of this beautiful time of year.

Soak it in. Get outside. Enjoy the changing colors. And let this season remind you that change can be beautiful.

Some places you visit. Others become part of your story.

This magical stay overlooking Lake Superior in Tofte has become one of our favorite places. We’ve hosted guests and quaint events here, celebrated anniversaries, skied the North Shore and have been fortunate enough to watch Alex and Rae bring their dream to life—now with the addition of their incredible new treehouses.

Over the past 18 months, we’ve watched the treehouse project take shape, with every detail thoughtfully designed and brought to life by an incredible group of people.

It’s been so special to watch the vision come together, and now, the treehouses are officially live!

We feel so lucky to know the people behind this special place and to have made so many memories here. It’s pure North Shore magic and we hope you can plan a visit soon.
