Tribal member and Social Media/Digital Journalist Kamiah Koch joined the Historic Preservation Office's three-day trip along the Obsidian Trail in August. As the name suggests, the Obsidian Cliffs supplies an abundant amount of obsidian (volcanic glass) which is a valuable resource for Tribes of the region for tool making.

Tribal members only have a few more days to vote in the 2026 Tribal Election. Here are your voting options:

Mailed ballots: Must be received by the Grand Ronde Post Office no later than noon Saturday, Sept. 12.

Official Grand Ronde Ballot Box: Delivered to the Tribal Governance Center Atrium Ballot Box by 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, or the Community Center Ballot Box between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 12.

In-person voting: Election Day, Saturday, Sept. 12, in the Grand Ronde Community Center between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

About 150 people attended Ampkwa Advocacy’s 2026 Missing and Murdered Indigenous People Awareness Walk at Riverfront Park in Salem Sunday, Aug. 30. According to Ampkwa Advocacy's Founder and Chair Amanda Freeman, the walk is an opportunity to honor missing and murdered Indigenous people, support families and survivors, bring greater attention to the MMIP crisis and connect people with organizations and resources working across prevention, safety, advocacy and support.
