Some photos from the last week 🌿
Milkweed blooming, new hens settling in, broccoli almost ready to harvest, and little flowers + critters showing up all around the homestead lately. Spring is starting to feel really alive around here 🐓🦋🥦

A swale is one of the simplest ways to work with the land instead of against it 🌧️🌱

Built on contour, swales slow rainwater down and give it time to soak into the soil instead of rushing away downhill. Over time they help reduce erosion, rehydrate the landscape, and support healthier plant growth.

This is the 4th swale we’ve built on our property, and each one teaches us more about how water moves across the land.

Still a lot to learn, but we’re documenting the process as we go 🤎

Monday morning comes and it feels like just another day, not the start of something new.
My dining room table tells the story better than I can—
my seed box (because it’s May, and it’s time to sow),
a basket of things waiting to be returned home,
fruit bowls nearly empty, ready to be filled again tomorrow,
and all the other small pieces of life paused mid-motion.
I’ve struggled to show up here lately. There’s been so much going on, it’s hard to find a clear thread to follow.
But this table… this feels like the most honest picture of life right now—
a little messy, a little full,
a lot of things in progress,
and more than a few plates spinning in the air.

Spring doesn’t leave much room for anything but soil-stained hands and seed-filled days 🌱
Cut flowers on the table, vegetables stretching toward the sun, and a life slowly taking shape in between it all.

It’s simple, it’s full, it’s ours 🤍

After a lot of cardboard, rain, wheelbarrows, and mulch…
the orchard is finally laid out.
Still the very beginning, but this is how a food forest starts. 🌱
