Final Fielder Mountain Fire Update Shows 81% Containment, Command Transferring to District
Fri 8-21-26 0806

Further progress continues on the Fielder Mountain Fire as resources close in on completing mop-up operations and repair work.

The Oregon Department of Forestry reports the fire is now 81% contained. ODF's Complex Incident Management Team (CIMT) 1 will be transferring command of the fire back to the Southwest Oregon District at 6 p.m. tonight.

Local district personnel have been shadowing the team for the past day to gain situational awareness about the status of the fire and the work that needs to be completed.

Firefighters still assigned to the fire will continue mopping up along the western and northern control lines to extinguish any remaining hotspots within the first 300-feet of the fire’s perimeter. Resources continue to build water bars and flatten bulldozer berms across the incident.

Roads in the fire area will be left open to allow for future use if needed. Today, isolated thunderstorms are in the forecast, with temperatures predicted in the mid-90s.

Fielder Mountain Fire 72% Contained, Repair and Mop-Up Continues
Thu 8-20-26 0800

Firefighters on the Fielder Mountain Fire continued making progress across the incident, pushing forward on mop-up and repair work for the 72% contained, 573 acre fire.

Overnight, engines patrolled the fire area, looking for any signs of smoke or fire. Flare-ups were minimal across the incident; this limited fire activity has prompted a decrease in firefighting resources working overnight.

Most of the contained line is along the southern and eastern perimeter near Rogue River, where mop-up has been completed 300-feet into the interior of the fire. Today, resources will continue these operations across the rest of the fire, focusing along the western and northern edges, and continuing repair work.

Temperatures are expected to reach triple-digits today. Relative humidity is expected to span between 20-30% across the fire area, with light winds predicted. As containment increases, resources that are no longer needed on the fire are being demobilized to either return home and rest or respond to other fires across the state.

Mop-Up Momentum on Fielder Mountain Fire Top Priority, Evacuations Canceled
Mon 8-17-26 1155

Fielder Mountain Fire crews continued mop-up work overnight, with today's goal to keep momentum going by strengthening the fire line and working deeper into burned areas of the 29% contained blaze.
All remaining evacuations have been canceled, and evacuation shelters at North Middle School and the Jackson County Expo Fairgrounds have been closed, per the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
According to the Oregon Department of Forestry, as containment increases, some crews are being released to rest and recover for future assignments. Firefighters during the night shift pinpointed hotspots with thermal imaging cameras and Unmanned Aircraft Systems.

Today, crews will continue extinguishing areas of heat. Rugged terrain in the northern part of the fire and poor road access are limiting water delivery for mop-up activities. Helicopters are continuing to provide support by filling up portable tanks for hose lays, ensuring enough water for a thorough mop-up.

Even with the challenge of steep slopes, rolling rocks, and falling trees, fire line crews are progressing well into the interior of the fire. Road closures around the fire have been lifted, however, fire personnel are still working in the area. Be aware and drive carefully if you need to be in the area.

Meal Prep Monday with Cartwright's Market features Steak Fried Rice! One of my favorite ways to use up leftover rice! Absolutely delicious and even better the next day! I've learned the key is to let the rice crisp up in the pan for longer than you think you should.
