Summary: This is a beautiful story written in a bygone era of Hemingway. Sailor Eyes - The Lost Manuscript is a pure literary treasure. First written by Alexander Hackett, circa 1953 as a gentle, affectionate, fictional account of life on the Cape outside Boston, Massachusetts, USA in the 1850s. This original manuscript is typed on an actual typewriter and published in its original form including strikeouts, margin notes, etc. It follows the lives of an aristocrat ship builder, his debutante daughter, rugged and brave ship captains, widows and a young man who has sailor eyes. Courting story lines are weaved into this charming tale of land, sea and heart. The manuscript was passed down for generations and eventually forgotten in the seaman's trunk stored in an attic for decades aging with cobwebs and sea salt until it arrived without ceremony at the passing of the late author's wife.
