Whitehall and Queensbury – Mary V. French, 78, peacefully passed away at Saratoga Hospital on September 2, 2020. She was born in Ballston Spa, NY on September 2, 1942, the daughter of the late US Army Sgt. 1st Class Douglas W. Bankschen and Teresa (Guido) Blankschen.

At Mary’s request, there will be no services. There will be a memorial service at the convenience of the family. In remembrance of Mary, contribute to your favorite charity, church, or organization.

Update about the recent storms and flooding cleanup.

STORM FOLLOW-UP UPDATE - WHITEHALL - 6:30 PM

Following severe thunderstorms with heavy winds and rain earlier this week, Village of Whitehall personnel from the Department of Public Works, Whitehall Volunteer Fire Company Inc. and Whitehall Police Department (NY) continue working with local, county and state officials to assess damage, respond to the needs of community members affected and recover from this significant event. Local officials continue working with a restoration company as well to continue mitigation efforts on the flooding issues at the Whitehall Municipal Center, which remains in limited service.

STATE OF EMERGENCY RESCINDED
As of this afternoon with the water system fully back online, the Boil Water Advisory lifted and the clean-up and recovery efforts progress, Village Mayor Phillip Smith rescinded the State of Emergency declared earlier this week in the Village.

FLOOD BUCKETS / DISASTER CLEAN UP SUPPLIES STILL AVAILABLE
The Whitehall United Methodist Church and American Red Cross have provided and donated a supply of "flood buckets" and disaster clean up kits which include clean-up supplies for those who experienced flooding / flood damage to their residence / buildings. "Flood Buckets" are still available by request to the Whitehall Volunteer Fire Company or the Washington County Department of Public Safety for those in need. As of this afternoon, 122 "Flood Buckets" have been distributed to the community.

RESIDENTIAL / BUSINESS DAMAGE ASSESSMENTS FOR POTENTIAL ASSISTANCE
Our County Code Enforcement team continued conducting structural safety visits on those properties affected by the weather event throughout the area today. Today, members of the New York State Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services Individual Assistance Unit, Whitehall Fire and our Public Safety team conducted 33 assessments on residential and commercial properties throughout the area that reported damage due to Monday's weather events. We continue working with our state partners to advocate for the potential of SBA (Small Business Administration) financial support / low interest loans for eligible properties affected. We will provide an update on the status of the evaluations later next week. Residents / Businesses with significant damage from Monday's event that had not been assessed should contact our Public Safety Operations Center to schedule a visit at (518)746-2500.

WHITEHALL SCHOOL DAMAGE INFORMATION / UPDATES
We continue to be in regular contact with Superintendent Dee and our community partners at the Whitehall Central School regarding the extensive damage the storm events caused at the school's facilities. STORM FOLLOW-UP UPDATE - WHITEHALL - 3:30 PM

Following severe thunderstorms with heavy winds and rain earlier this week, Village of Whitehall personnel from the Department of Public Works, Whitehall Volunteer Fire Company Inc. and Whitehall Police Department (NY) continue working with local, county and state officials to assess damage and respond to the needs of community members affected. Local officials continue working with a restoration company as well to mitigate the flooding issues at the Whitehall Municipal Center, which remains in limited service.

STORM RESPONSE & STATE OF EMERGENCY
The State of Emergency declared for the Village of Whitehall remains in effect until further notice, the Mayor and Washington County, NY - Department of Public Safety Emergency Management officials are continuing to monitor the situation and will continue to provide updates regarding any changes in status. Our partners at the New York State Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services continue to support our response with coordination of personnel and equipment to assist our local and county officials.

BOTTLED WATER DISTRIBUTION SITE CONTINUES
In coordination with county Public Safety and state Homeland Security officials, the Whitehall Volunteer Fire Company is hosting a bottled water distribution site at the firehouse for affected residents in need of bottled water, as the Boil Water Advisory for the Village of Whitehall Water System remains in effect at this time. The bottled water was provided by New York State in support of the ongoing response and operations for the community. Community members in need can pick up a supply of bottled water at the firehouse as supplies last.

FLOOD BUCKETS / DISASTER CLEAN UP SUPPLIES
The Whitehall United Methodist Church and American Red Cross have provided and donated a supply of "flood buckets" and disaster clean up kits which include clean-up supplies for those who experienced flooding / flood damage to their residence / buildings. "Flood Buckets" will be available today for those in need at the Whitehall Volunteer Fire Company.

STRUCTURAL ASSESSMENTS FOR DAMAGE
In coordination with our local and county officials, the New York State DHSES Office of Fire Prevention & Control have been in the community conducting structural safety / damage assessments throughout the day today. Residents directly affected by the flooding to their residence or commercial buildings in need of an assessment (non-emergency) are asked to contact the county's Operations Center at (518)746-2500 to arrange a site visit.

WHITEHALL SCHOOL REPORTS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE
We continue to be in contact with Superintendent Dee and our community partners at the Whitehall Central School regarding the extensive damage the storm events caused at the school's facilities.
