One dead after single vehicle crash in Brunswick

BRUNSWICK – The Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office confirms to the Renss Lens that one person has died after their northbound vehicle left NYS Route 351 (Farm to Market Road) and plunged into a steep ravine Thursday afternoon. At this time the identity of the victim is being withheld pending next of kin.
NYS Route 351 is closed between White Church and Dearstyne Roads to facilitate the investigation but is expected to reopen by early evening. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by the NYS Police, the Eagle Mills and Poestenkill Fire Department and Rensselaer County Bureau of Public Safety.

According to the Town of Petersburgh, the mandatory evacuation order for the residents of C**n Brook Road will remain in effect until sometime tomorrow. This is the result of the propane lead at Taconic Plastics.
Affected residents are asked to call the 911 Center at 518-270-5555 for instructions on overnight accommodations if needed.
Additionally, NYS Route 22 by the plant has been re-opened.

Residents within a half mile of the Taconic Plastic plant in Petersburgh have been told they can return to their homes, following this morning's evacuation because of a propane gas leak at the plant. The exception is those that reside on C**n Brook Road

A gas leak at the Taconic Plastics plant in Petersburgh has shutdown NYS Route 22 and forced an evacuation order for residents within a 1/2 mile of the plant.
Emergency officials say a pin hole leak was discovered this morning. The tank is currently being drained, a process that could take several more hours.
The Renss Lens will update the situation as we learn more.
