May is such a good time to fill beds and pots with flowers that will keep the garden bright right through summer 🌸
🌼 Zinnias and cosmos are easy favorites for lots of color
πŸ’œ Salvia is one I love for strong color and long blooming
🧑 Marigolds always make everything look cheerful fast
🌿 I like mixing different heights so the bed does not look flat
A few good choices now can keep the garden colorful for months.

Filling empty spots in the garden is great, but I’ve learned the best plants are the ones that soften a space without turning into a problem later 🌸
🌿 I like using gap-fillers to connect bigger plants, cover bare soil, and make beds look more finished.
πŸ’œ Plants like heuchera, liriope, creeping phlox, and dianthus can add color and texture without swallowing everything around them.
πŸƒ Lamb’s ear is one I like for soft foliage, while coral bells are great when a spot needs dependable leaf color all season.
🌼 The trick is choosing plants with a tidy habit, not just pretty flowers, because some spread much faster than people expect.
πŸͺ΄ When I’m filling gaps, I always leave a little breathing room so the bed still looks full later without becoming crowded.

A lot of the best pest control in the garden comes free, but first you have to learn which insects are actually helping you 🐞
🐞 Ladybugs are one of the easiest helpers to recognize, and they do a great job with aphids
πŸͺ° Hoverflies may not look exciting at first, but their larvae are excellent at cleaning up soft-bodied pests
πŸͺ² Ground beetles help down at soil level where a lot of garden trouble starts
🌿 Lacewings are another one I’m always glad to see because they are great natural predators
πŸ‚ Earwigs can be a mixed bag, but they are not always the villain people assume
πŸ” I try to watch before removing insects, because a lot of beneficial ones get mistaken for pests way too quickly
The more balance you have in the garden, the less you end up needing to step in all the time.

One of the nicest parts of late spring and summer is watching the produce change month by month instead of buying the same things all year πŸ“
🌿 In May, I think cool-season favorites like asparagus, peas, radishes, spinach, lettuce, and strawberries
πŸ₯’ By June, the garden and markets start shifting toward zucchini, cucumbers, beans, blueberries, and apricots
πŸ… July is when it really starts feeling abundant with tomatoes, corn, peaches, peppers, eggplant, and watermelon
🧺 I’ve found local produce usually tastes better because it is picked closer to when it is actually ripe
πŸ‘©β€πŸ³ Eating with the season also makes meal planning easier because you work with what is naturally ready
β˜€οΈ In warm weather, I always check produce quickly because it can go from perfect to overripe fast
Seasonal eating just feels better to me, and it makes you appreciate each part of the growing season more.

Starting seeds in water is a fun way to watch roots grow, and it’s something I like doing on a windowsill where I can keep an eye on them 🌱
πŸ₯‘ Avocado is probably the most popular and one of the easiest to try
πŸ‹ Lemon and apple seeds can sprout, but I’ve found they take a little patience
πŸ‘ Peach and plum pits will grow, but they usually need more time than people expect
πŸ’ Cherry seeds can sprout, but not every one will take
πŸ‡ Grape seeds are small but can still get going in the right conditions
🌰 Hazelnut and fig can root, though I’ve had mixed results with those
🌺 Passion flower is a fun one if you want something a little different
🍎 Pomegranate seeds are easy to try and usually pretty quick
I change the water every few days and keep them in bright light. Just keep in mind, not all of these will turn into fruiting plants, but they’re still fun to grow.
